TWO SERMONS ON EID UZ ZUHA
First | Second
First Sermon of Eid-ul-Azha
Bismillāhi rRaḥmāni rRaḥīm.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.
Lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu Akbar.
There is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.
Wa lillāhilḥamd.
And to Allah belongs all praise.
Allāhu Akbar 'alā mā hadāynā.
Allah is the Greatest for what He has guided us to.
Allāhu Akbar 'alā mā razaqanā min bahīmatilan'ām.
Allah is the Greatest for what He has provided us from the grazing livestock.
Walḥamdu lillāhi 'alā mā ablānā.
And praise be to Allah for what He has tested us with.
Subḥānallāhi alladhī ibtalā albarāyā bianwā'ilbalāyā.
Glory be to Allah, who tests creation with various trials.
Li'allā yabṭululjazā'u wa liyaḥsunul'aṭā'.
So that the reward may not be void and the giving may be good.
Faba'ath arrusula wa naṣaba hudāta khayri ssubul.
So He sent the messengers and established guides to the best paths.
Ḍa'īfatalḥālāti qawiyyatan fī 'azā'imi nniyyāt.
Weak in condition, strong in determination of intentions.
Wa law shā'a laja'alahum ūlī quwwatin shadīdah.
And if He willed, He would have made them possessors of great strength.
Faṭallati ala'nāqu lahum khāḍi'īn.
Then necks would submit to them.
Wa khafaḍat lahum ajniḥatulmutakabbirīn.
And the wings of the arrogant would humble before them.
Alḥamdu lillāhi alladhī waḍa'albayta biBakkata mubārakan wa hudan lil'ālamīn.
Praise be to Allah who established the House in Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for the worlds.
Wa ja'alahu mathābatan linnāsi kāffatan.
And made it a resort for all people.
Wa ma'manan lil'ākifīna wal'ābidīn.
And a sanctuary for those who stay there and those who worship.
I'malū 'ibādallāhi fī mithli hādhalyawmil'aẓīm.
Work, O servants of Allah, on a day like this great day.
Ibtalā Allāhu IbrāhīmalKhalīla bidhibḥi waladihi Ismā'īl.
Allah tested Abraham, the close friend, by sacrificing his son Ishmael.
Fa ra'alKhalīlu fīlmanāmi wa huwa baynarrukni walmaqām.
So the close friend saw in a dream, while he was between the corner and the station.
Annahu liwaladihi dhābiḥun wa lidamihi sāfiḥ.
That he was sacrificing his son and shedding his blood.
Fa anbatuhu min raqdatigi marhūban wa min manāmihi mar'ūban.
So it awoke him from his sleep in fear, and from his dream in terror.
Fa qāla libanīhi innī arā fīlmanāmi 'iyānan annī adhbaḥuka qurbānan.
So he said to his son, "Indeed, I see in a dream, clearly, that I am sacrificing you as an offering."
Fanẓur mādhā tarā yā sayyidalwarā.
"So see what you think, O master of creation."
Fa qāla yā abati if'al mā tu'maru.
So he said, "O my father, do what you are commanded."
Satajidunī in shā'allāhu minasṣābirīn.
"You will find me, if Allah wills, among the patient ones."
Falā taḍmum thawbaka 'an damī li'allā tarāhusshafīqatu ummī.
"Do not fold your garment from my blood so that my compassionate mother does not see it."
Waqra' 'alayhā salāmī manī'an.
"And convey my strong greetings to her."
Wardud ilayhā qamīṣī musalliyan.
"And return my shirt to her as a comfort."
Wa qul lahā inna ibnaki naqalahu mawlāhulkarīm.
"And tell her that her noble Lord has transported her son."
Ilā dārilkhuldi wanna'īm.
"To the abode of eternity and bliss."
Falammā intahat maqālatuhu wantahat waṣiyyatuhu.
So when his statement ended and his testament was complete.
ShaddahulKhalīlu shaddan wathīqan.
The close friend tied him firmly.
Wa aḍja'ahu iḍjā'an rafīqan.
And laid him down gently.
Fa aqbalatiṭṭayru 'alayhi 'ākifah.
Then the birds approached him, hovering.
Wa aṣbaḥatilarḍu waljibālu rājifah.
And the earth and mountains became trembling.
Walmalā'ikatu mutaḍarri'ah.
And the angels were supplicating.
Walwuḥūshu mutasari'ah.
And the wild animals were rushing.
Wassama'u min fawqihim taḍujju.
And the sky above them was roaring.
Walarḍu min taḥtihim ta'ujju.
And the earth beneath them was thundering.
Raḥmatan liṭṭifliṣṣaghīr.
Out of mercy for the young child.
Wa ta'ajjuban min ṣabri ashshaykhilkabīr.
And out of wonder at the patience of the old man.
Fanādā ArḥamurRāḥimīna yā Ibrāhīm.
Then the Most Merciful of the merciful called out, "O Abraham!"
Qad ṣaddaqtarru'yā innā kadhālika najzilmuḥsinīn.
"You have indeed fulfilled the vision. Thus do We reward the doers of good."
Inna hādhā lahuwalbalā'ulmubīn.
"Indeed, this was a clear trial."
Wa fadaynāhu bidhibḥin 'aẓīm.
"And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice."
Fa nahaḍa 'inda dhālikalKhalīlu bilmidyah.
Then at that, the close friend rose with the knife.
Ilā mā atāhu bihi Jibrīlu minalfidyah.
Towards what Gabriel brought him as the ransom.
Fadhabaḥahā qurbānan wa jahara 'alayhā Bismillāhi 'iyānan.
So he sacrificed it as an offering and openly pronounced "Bismillah" over it.
Fa aḥsanalḥadīthi kitābillāhilḥakīm.
So the best of speech is the book of Allah, the Wise.
Bismillāhi rRaḥmāni rRaḥīm.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Qul Huwallāhu Aḥad. (1)
Say, "He is Allah, the One."
AllāhuṣṢamad. (2)
"Allah, the Eternal Refuge."
Lam yalid, wa lam yūlad. (3)
"He neither begets nor is born."
Wa lam yakullahu kufuwan aḥad. (4)
"Nor is there to Him any equivalent."

Translation: In the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no god except Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and praise is for Allah, Allah is the Greatest, for that upon which He guided us. Thanks be to Him for the bounties He has given us. Allah is the Greatest that He gave us to consume the flesh of quadrupeds and all praise is for Allah for having tested us. Praise be to Allah Who tested the creatures through different tests so that the recompense may not become invalid and that the good reward may be felt nice. Allah sent the messengers and appointed guides for the best of the paths who were weak in apparent circumstances but strong in their determinations. And if Allah wanted, He could have made them very mighty through which the people would have been compelled to bow down before them. And the arms of pride would have become helpless in front of them. All praise is for Allah Who made His blessed House in Mecca which is a guide for all the worlds. And He made it a peaceful place of gathering of all the people and for those who worship and practice devotions. O servants of Allah, know the greatness of this great day. It is the day when the Almighty Allah tested His bosom friend, Ibrahim by commanding him to slaughter his son, Ismail. When the Khaleel was sleeping between the Rukn and Maqaam, he saw in dream that he was slaughtering his son and shedding his blood. He said to his son: O my son! surely I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what you see O chief of the world. He replied: O my father! do what you are commanded; if Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones. Do not let your clothes be smeared with my blood and that my loving mother should not see my blood. You convey my greetings to her, give her my shirt and tell her that the Kind Lord has sent her son to the Paradise. When he concluded his dialogue and his bequest was over, the Khaleel tied him up securely laid him down very gently. The birds began to sacrifice themselves for him and the earth and the mountains began to shudder. The angels began to lament and the beast of the wild began to tremble in terror. Sounds of wails and lamentations came to them from the heavens and the earth echoed with sounds of screams of sorrow. It was so because they all felt pity on the little child and seeing the patience of the aged man, they were amazed. At that the most merciful of the merciful ones called out: O Ibrahim, you have fulfilled your vision. Indeed We recompense the doers of good in this way only. Most surely this is a manifest trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice. Now, the Khaleel took the knife and moved to the replacement that Jibraeel had brought, and he slaughtered it and recited: In the Name of Allah, loudly over it. The Book of Allah the Great and Wise is the best discourse. In the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Say: He, Allah, is One. Allah is He on Whom all depend. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And none is like Him.
After that sit down and recite the Durood thrice. And then arise and recite the second sermon.
Second Sermon of Eid-ul-Azha
Bismillāhi rRaḥmāni rRaḥīm.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Alḥamdu lillāhi alladhī lā ilāha illā HuwalWāḥiduṣṢamad.
All praise is due to Allah, who there is no god but Him, the One, the Eternal.
Alladhī lam yattakhidh ṣāḥibatan wa lā waladan.
Who has not taken a partner or a son.
Wa anna Muḥammadan 'abduhū wa rasūluhulmujtābā.
And that Muhammad is His chosen servant and messenger.
Wa anna 'Alīyan amīrulmu'minīna wa sayyidulwaṣiyyīn.
And that Ali is the Commander of the Faithful and the Master of the Successors.

Ūṣīkum 'ibādallāhi bitaqwallāhi.
I advise you, O servants of Allah, to be Godfearing.
Waghtināmi ṭā'atihī wa a'dādil'amalilṣāliḥi.
And to seize the opportunity of obeying Him and preparing good deeds.
Fī hādhihilayyāmilfāniyatilkhāliyah.
In these fleeting, empty days.
Qabla an yuhajuma 'alaykumulmawtu alladhī lā maharaba minhu wa lā mafarr.
Before death, from which there is no escape or refuge, assaults you.
Innallāha wa malā'ikatahū yuṣallūna 'alanNabīy.
Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet.
Yā ayyuhalladhīna āmanū ṣallū 'alayhi wa sallimū taslīmā.
O you who have believed, ask for blessings upon him and greet him with a [worthy] greeting.

Translation: In the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful. All praise be to Allah except whom there is no deity. He is One, Unique and needless. He does not have a companion or an issue. And I testify that His Eminence, Muhammad Mustafa is His servant and His chosen Prophet and His Eminence, Ali is the chief of the believers and the leader of the successors and the Imams from his progeny are our leaders. O servants of Allah, I advise you to fear Allah and exhort you to His obedience. I enjoin you to perform good deeds in these passing temporal days, before death gets hold of you; from which it is not possible to escape. Surely Allah and His angels bless the Prophet; O you who believe! call for (Divine) blessings on him and salute him with a (becoming) salutation. O Allah, bless Muhammad the chief of all the prophets, and on the chief of believers, Ali and on Fatima Zahra, daughter of Muhammad Mustafa, and Hasan, who was martyred with poison of oppression. And Husain, the martyr of Kerbala and Ali Ibnul Husain the grief-stricken, and Muhammad Ibne Ali and Jafar Ibne Muhammad and Moosa Ibne Jafar and Ali Ibne Moosa and Muhammad Ibne Ali and Ali Ibne Muhammad and Hasan Ibne Ali and the Hujjat al-Qaim who will rise up with truth, the awaited Mahdi. Through whose survival the world survives and through whose blessings the world is nourished. O Allah, have mercy on us through the eternal acceptance of one who will strengthen the foundations of Shariah and faith. O Allah, give us the good sense of Your obedience and to keep away from Your disobedience and the sincerity of intention and the recognition of sanctity and honor us with guidance and determination and fill up our hearts with knowledge and recognition and purify our stomachs from unlawful and doubtful things. And restrain our hands from oppression and theft and keep our eyes away from sinfulness and betrayal of trust and block our ears from hearing vain things and backbiting. O the owner of generosity and kindness, for the sake of your generosity and nobility, accept our supplication. Indeed Allah commands justice, goodness and giving to the kinsfolk. And He prohibits from evil and shamelessness. Allah advises you so that you may obtain good counsel.
