wa ¦asuna ‘ul¡’ika raf¢qan |
Very excellent is the companionship of such ones. |
ash-hadu annaka lam tahin wa lam tankul |
I testify that you did not lag behind and did not turn away the face, |
and that you left this life with full awareness of the truth, |

following the examples of the righteous ones |
wa muttbi`an lilnnbiyy¢na |
and sticking to the Prophets. |
fajama`a all¡hu baynan¡ wa baynaka |
So, Allah may gather us with you, |

His Messenger, and His disciples |
f¢ man¡zili almukhbit¢na |
in the abodes of those who practiced humbly (with their Lord). |
fa’innahu ar¦amu alrr¡¦im¢na |
He is certainly the most Merciful of all the merciful ones. |
It is expedient to say this form of ziy¡rah while standing behind the holy tomb and facing the kiblah direction, as is also advised by Shaykh al-±£siy in his book of ‘Tahdh¢b al-A¦k¡m’.
You may then enter, throw yourself on the tomb, and say the following while facing the kiblah direction:
alssal¡mu `alaykha ayyuh¡ al`abd al¥¥¡li¦u |
Peace be upon you; O the righteous servant (of Allah). |
According to the previously mentioned narration, the ziy¡rah of al-`Abb¡s (a.s) ends here. But Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s and Shaykh al-Muf¢d, as well as other scholars, have added the following:
You may then turn to the side of the head and offer a two-Rak`ah prayer. Afterwards, you may offer prayers as many as you wish. You may also supplicate Almighty Allah earnestly. After these prayers, you may say the following:
all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin |
O Allah: (please) send blessings upon Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad. |
wa l¡ tada` l¢ f¢ h¡dh¡ almak¡ni almukarrami wal-mash-hadi almu`a¨¨ami dhanban ill¡ ghafartahu |
and do not leave for me, in this honored place and glorified shrine, any sin (that I did) without forgiveness, |
wa l¡ hamman ill¡ farrjtahu |
any care without relief, |
wa l¡ mara¤an ill¡ shafaytahu |
any illness without cure, |
wa l¡ `ayban ill¡ satartahu |
any defect with covering up, |
wa l¡ rizqan ill¡ basa§tahu |
any (source of) sustenance without expansion, |
wa l¡ khawfan ill¡ ¡mantahu |
any item of terror without pacification, |
wa l¡ shamlan ill¡ jama`tahu |
any disunity without reunification, |
wa l¡ gh¡’iban ill¡ ¦afi¨tahu wa adnaytahu |
any absent one without guarding and approaching (him to me), |
wa l¡ ¦¡jatan min ¦aw¡’iji aldduny¡ wal-¡khirati |
and any single need, among the many needs of this life as well as the life to come, |
laka f¢h¡ ri¤an wa liya f¢h¡ ¥al¡¦un |
whose settlement achieves your gratification and my good, |
ill¡ qa¤aytah¡ y¡ ar¦ama alrr¡¦im¢na |
without settlement. O He Who is the most Merciful of all the merciful ones. |
You may then return to the tomb, stop at the side of the legs, and say the following:
alssal¡mu `alayka y¡ ab¡ alfa¤li al`abb¡sa ibna am¢ri almu´min¢na |
Peace be upon you; O Abu’l-Fa¤l al-`Abb¡s, son of Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n. |
alssal¡mu `alayka yabna sayyidi alwa¥iyy¢na |
Peace be upon you, son of the chief of the Successors (of the Prophets.) |
alssal¡mu `alayka yabna awwali alqawmi isl¡man |
Peace be upon you, son of the foremost to (the embracement of) Islam, |
wa aqdamihim ‘¢m¡nan |
the first one who believed (in Allah), |
wa aqwamihim bid¢ni all¡hi |
the best one who served the religion of Allah, |
wa a¦wa§ihim `al¡ al-isl¡mi |
and the most careful for Islam. |
ash-hadu laqad na¥a¦ta lill¡hi wa liras£lihi wa li-akh¢ka |
I testify that you served Allah, His Messenger, and your brother sincerely. |

You were the most excellent consoling brother. |

So, Allah’s curse be on the group who killed you. |
wa la`ana all¡hu ‘ummatan ¨alamatka |
And Allah’s curse be on the group who wronged you. |
wa la`ana all¡hu ‘ummatan asta¦allat minka alma¦¡rima |
And Allah’s curse be on the group who violated your sanctities |

and infringed the sanctity of Islam. |

You were the most excellent steadfast fighter, |

and worked desirably for gaining the abundant reward, which others refused, |

and the nice tribute. |
wa al¦aqaka all¡hu bidarajati ¡b¡’ika f¢ jann¡ti alnna`¢mi |
So, Allah may attach you to the rank of your fathers in the gardens of bliss. |
all¡humma inn¢ ta`arr¤tu liziy¡rati awliy¡’ika raghbatan f¢ thaw¡bika |
O Allah, I have done the pilgrimage to Your disciples out of my desire for (winning) your reward |
wa raj¡‘an limaghfiratika wa jaz¢li i¦s¡nika |
and my wish to recognize You and Your abundant benevolence. |
So, I implore to You to send Your blessings to Mu¦ammad and his immaculate Household |
wa an taj`ala rizqy bihim d¡rran |
and make my sustenance, by their intercession, flow copiously, |
wa `ayshy bihim q¡rran |

wa ziy¡raty bihim maqb£latan |
my pilgrimage rewardable, |
wa ¦ay¡ty bihim §ayyibatan |
and my life pleasant. |
wa adrijny idr¡ja almukram¢na |
And make me take to the conduct of the honored ones |
waj`alny mimman yanqalibu min ziy¡rati mash¡hidi a¦ibb¡’ika |
and make me one of those who, as returning from the pilgrimage to the tombs of Your beloved ones, |
mufli¦an munji¦an |
win success and prosperity |
qad istawjaba ghufr¡na aldhdhun£bi |
and deserve forgiveness of sins, |
wa satra al`uy£bi |
covering up of defects, |
wa kashfa alkur£bi |
and relief of disasters |
innaka ahlu alttaqw¡ wa ahlu almaghfirati |
You are surely worthy of being feared and worthy of forgiving. |
If you intend to take leave, you may approach the holy tomb and say the following, which has been reported from Ab£-°amzah al-Tham¡liy, and other scholars have referred to it:
astawdi`uka all¡ha wa astar`¢ka |
I seek, through you, the guard and custody of Allah |

O Allah, record our names with the witnesses. |

all¡humma l¡ taj`alhu ¡khira al`ahdi min ziy¡raty qabra abni akhy ras£lika |
O Allah, do not decide this pilgrimage to the tomb of the son of Your Messenger’s brother the last one. |
¥all¡ all¡hu `alayhi wa ¡lihi |
Peace be upon him (i.e. the Messenger) and upon his Household. |

wa tawaffany `al¡ al’¢m¡ni bika |
and take me to you abiding by the believing in You, |

And disavowing their enemy. |

My Lord, I have accepted such. |
wa ¥all¡ all¡hu `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin |
Allah may send blessings to Mu¦ammad and the Household of Mu¦ammad. |
You may then pray Almighty Allah for yourself, your parents, the faithful believers, and the Muslims. You may choose any statement of supplication you like.
