WA KAANA MIN DUA'AA-IHEE A'LAY-HIS-SALAAMU LIABAWAY-HEE A'LAY-HIMAAS-SALAAM
AL-LAAHUM-MA S'AL-LI A'LAAMUH'AM-MADIN A'B-DIKA WA RASOOLIKA WA AH-LI BAY-TIHIT'-T'AAHIREENA
WA AKH-S'US'-HUM BIF-Z''ALI
S'ALAWAATIKA WA RAH'-MATIKA
WA BARAKAATIKA WA SALAAMIK
WA AKH-S'US'IL-LAAHUM-MA WAALIDAY-YA
BIL-KARAAMATI LADAY-K WAS'-S'ALAATI MINKA

WA LAAA UD-RIKU MAA YAJIBU A'LAY-YA LAHUMAA
WA LAAA ANA BIQAAZ''IW-WAZ'EEFATA KHID-MATIHIMAA
FAS'AL-LI A'LAA MUH'AM-MADIW-WA AAALIH
WA AI'N-NEE YAA KHAY-RA MANI AS-TUE'ENA BIH
WA WAF-FIQ-NEE YAAA AH-DAA MAR-RUGHIBA ILAY-H

24. His Supplication for his Parents (upon the two of them be peace)

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَ رَسُوْلِكَ وَ اَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ

O Allah, bless Muhammad, Thy slave and Thy messenger, and his Household, the pure,

وَاخْصُصْهُمْ بِاَفْضَلِ

and single them out for the best of

صَلَوَاتِكَ وَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Thy blessings, Thy mercy,

وَ بَرَكـَاتِكَ وَ سَلَامِكَ

Thy benedictions, and Thy peace!

وَاخْصُصْ اَللّٰهُمَّ وَالِدَىَّ

And single out my parents, O Allah,

بِالْكـَرَامَةِ لَدَيْكَ وَ الصَّلَاةِ مِنْكَ

for honour with Thee and blessings from Thee,

يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

O Most Merciful of the merciful!

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَ اَلْهِمْنِىْ عِلْمَ مَا يَجِبُ لَهُمَا عَلَىَّ اِلْهَامًا

teach me through inspiration knowledge of everything incumbent upon me toward them,

وَاجْمَعْ لِىْ عِلْمَ ذٰلِكَ كُلِّهٖ تَمَامًا

and gather within me knowledge of all that completely!

ثُمَّ اسْتَعْمِلْنِىْ بِمَا تُلْهِمُنِىْ مِنْهُ

Then make me act in accordance with what Thou hast inspired me

وَ وَفِّقْنِىْ لِلنُّفُوْذِ فِيْمَا تُبَصِّرُنِىْ مِنْ عِلْمِهٖ حَتّٰى

and give me the success to put into practice the knowledge Thou hast shown to me, lest I

لَا يَفُوْتَنِى اسْتِعْمَالُ شَىْءٍ عَلَّمْتَنِيْهِ

fail to act according to something Thou hast taught me

وَلَا تَثْقُلْ اَرْكَانِىْ عَنِ الْحُفُوْفِ فِيْمَا اَلْهَمْتَنِيْهِ

or my limbs feel too heavy to perform that with which Thou hast inspired me!

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ كَمَا شَرَّفْتَنَا بِهٖ

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household, as Thou hast ennobled us through him,

وَ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ كَمَا اَوْجَبْتَ لَنَا الْحَقِّ عَلَى الْخَلْقِ بِسَبَبِهٖ

and bless Muhammad and his Household, as Thou hast made incumbent upon us rights toward the creatures because of him![1]

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِىْ

O Allah,

اَهَابُهُمَا هَيْبَةَ السُّلْطَانِ الْعَسُوْفِ

fill me with awe of my parents, the awe one has toward a tyrannical sovereign,

وَ اَبَرُّهُمَا بِرَّالْاُمِّ الرَّءُوْفِ

and let me be devoted to them, with the devotion of a compassionate mother!

وَاجْعَلْ طَاعَتِىْ لِوَالِدَىَّ وَ بِرِّىْ بِهِمَا

Make my obedience and devotion to them

اَقَرَّ لِعَيْنِىْ مِنْ رَقْدَةِ الْوَسْنَانِ

more gladdening to my eyes than sleep to the drowsy

وَ اَثْلَجَ لِصَدْرِىْ مِنْ شَرْبَةِ الظَّمْاٰنِ

and more refreshing to my breast than drink to the thirsty,

حَتّٰى اُوْثِرَ عَلٰى هَوَاىَ هَوَاهُمَا

so that I may prefer their inclination to my inclination,

وَ اُقَدِّمُ عَلٰى رِضَاىَ رِضَاهُمَا

set their satisfaction before my satisfaction,

وَ اَشْتَكْثِرَ بِرَّهُمَا بِىْ وَ اِنْ قَلَّ

make much of their devotion to me though it be little,

وَ اَسْتَقِلَّ بِرِّىْ بِهِمَا وَ اِنْ كَثُرَ

and make little of my devotion to them though it be great.

اَللّٰهُمَّ

O Allah,

خَفِّضْ لَهُمَا صَوْتِىْ

lower before them my voice,

وَ اَطِبْ لَهُمَا كـَلَامِىْ

make agreeable to them my words,

وَ اَلِنْ لَهُمَا عَرِيْكـَتِىْ

make mild before them my temper,

وَاعْطِفْ عَلَيْهِمَا قَلْبِىْ

make tender toward them my heart,

وَ صَيِّرْنِىْ بِهِمَا رَفِيْقًا وَ عَلَيْهِمَا شَفِيْقًا

and turn me into their kind companion, their loving friend!

اَللّٰهُمَّ

O Allah,

اشْكُرْ لَهُمَا تَرْبِيَتِىْ

thank them for my upbringing,

وَ اَثِبْهُمَا عَلٰى تَكْرِمَتِىْ

reward them for honouring me,

وَاحْفَظْ لَهُمَا مَا حَفِظَاهُ مِنِّىْ فِىْ صِغَرِىْ

and guard them as they guarded me in my infancy!

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ مَا مَسَّهُمَا مِنِّىْ مِنْ اَزًى

O Allah, and whatever harm has touched them from me,

اَوْ خَلَصَ اِلَيْهِمَا عَنِّىْ مِنْ مَكْرُوْهٍ

detested thing has reached them from me,

اَوْضَاعَ قِبَلِىْ لَهُمَا مِنْ حَقٍّ

or right of theirs which has been neglected by me,

فَاجْعَلْهُ

allow it to

حِطَّةً لِذُنُوْبِهِمَا

alleviate their sins,

وَعُلُوًّا فِىْ دَرَجَاتِهِمَا

raise them in their degrees,

وَ زِيَادَةً فِىْ حَسَنَاتِهِمَا

and add to their good deeds!

يَا مُبَدِّلَ السَّيِّئٰاتِ بِاَضْعَافِهَا مِنَ الْحَسَنَاتِ

O He who changes evil deeds into manifold good deeds![2]

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ مَا

O Allah, whatever

تَعَدَّيَا عَلَىَّ فِيْهِ مِنْ قَوْلٍ

word through which they have transgressed against me,

اَوْ اَسْرَفَا عَلَىَّ فِيْهِ مِنْ فِعْلٍ

act through which they have been immoderate with me,

اَوْ ضَيَّعَاهُ لِىْ مِنْ حَقٍّ

right of mine which they have left neglected,

اَوْ قَصَّرَا بِىْ عَنْهُ مِنْ وَاجِبٍ فَقَدْ

or obligation toward me in which they have fallen short,

وَ قَبْتُه لَهُمَا وَ جُدْتُ بِهٖ عَلَيْهِمَا

I grant it to them and bestow it upon them,

وَ رَغِبْتُ اِلَيْكَ فِىْ وَضْعِ تَبِعَتِهٖ عَنْهُمَا فَاِنِّىْ

and I beseech Thee to remove from them its ill consequence, for I do not

لَآ اَتَّهِمُهُمَا عَلٰى نَفْسِىْ

accuse them concerning myself,

وَلَا اَسْتَبْطِئُهُمَا فِىْ بِرِّىْ

find them slow in their devotion toward me,

وَ لَآ اَكْرَهُ مَا تَوَلَّيَاهُ مِنْ اَمْرِىْ يَارَبِّ فَهُمَا

or dislike the way they have attended to my affairs, my Lord! They have

اَوْجَبُ حَقًّا عَلَىَّ

rights against me which are more incumbent,

وَ اَقْدَمُ اِحْسَانًا اِلَىَّ

precedence in beneficence toward me that is greater,

وَ اَعْظَمُ مِنَّةً لَدَىَّ

and kindness toward me that is mightier than that

مِنْ اَنْ اُقَاصَهُمَا بِعَدْلٍ

I should settle accounts with justice

اَوْ اُجَازِيَهُمَا عَلٰى مِثْلٍ

or repay them with equivalents.

اَيْنَ اِذًا يَّا اِلٰهِىْ طُوْلُ شُغْلِهِمَا بِتَرْبِيَتِىْ

Where then, my Allah, would be their long occupation with bringing me up?

وَ اَيْنَ شِدَّةُ تَعَبِهِمَا فِىْ حَرَاسَتِىْ

Where the hardship of their toil in taking care of me?

وَ اَيْنَ اِقْتَارُهُمَا عَلٰٓى اَنْفُسِهِمَا لِلتَّوْسِعَةِ عَلَىَّ

Where the stinting of themselves to provide me with plenty?

هَيْهَاتَ

What an idea! I can never

مَا يَسْتَوْفِيَانِ مِنِّىْ حَقَّهُمَا

discharge their right against me,

وَ لَا اُدْرِكَ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَىَّ لَهُمَا

fulfil my obligations toward them,

وَ لَا اَنَا بِقَاضٍ وَظِيْفَةَ خِدْمَتِهِمَا

or accomplish the duty of serving them.

فَصَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ

So bless Muhammad and his Household

وَ اَعَنِّىْ يَا خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتُعِيْنَ بِهٖ

and help me, O Best of those whose help we seek!

وَ وَفِّقْنِىْ يَآ اَهْدٰىْ مَنْ رُغِبَ اِلَيْهِ

Give me success, O Most Guiding of those whom we beseech!

وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِىْ فِىْٓ اَهْلِ الْعُقُوْقِ لِلْاٰبَآءِ وَ الْاُمَّهَاتِ يَوْمَ تُجْزٰى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَ هُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ

Place me not among the people of disrespect to fathers and mothers on the day when every soul will be repaid for what it has earned, they shall not be wronged.[3]

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ وَ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ

O Allah, bless Muhammad, his Household, and his progeny

وَاخْصُصْ اَبَوَىَّ بِاَفْضَلِ مَا خَصَصْتَ بِهٖ اٰبَآءَ عِبَادِكَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ اُمَّهَاتِهِمْ

and single out my parents for the best which Thou hast singled out for the fathers and mothers of Thy faithful servants,

يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ

O Most Merciful of the merciful!

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تُنْسِنِىْ ذِكـْرَهُمَا

O Allah, let me not forget to remember them

فِىْ اَدْبَارِ صَلَوَاتِىْ

after my ritual prayers,

وَ فِىْ اِنًا مِنْ اٰنَآءِ لَيْلِىْ

at every time throughout my night,

وَ فِىْ كُلِّ سَاعَةٍ مِّنْ سَاعَاتِ نَهَارِىْ

and in each of the hours of my day!

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِهٖ

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَاغْفِرْ لِىْ بِدُعَائِىْ لَهُمَا

forgive me through my supplication for my parents,

وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمَا بِبِرِّهِمَا لِىْ مَغْفِرَةً حَتْمًا

forgive them through their devotion toward me with unfailing forgiveness,

وَارْضَ عَنْهُمَا بِشَفَاعَتِىْ لَهُمَا رِضًى عَزْمًا

be well pleased with them through my intercession for them with resolute good pleasure,

وَ بَلِّغْهُمَا بِالْكَرَامَةِ مَوَاطِنَ السَّلَامَةِ

and make them reach through Thy generosity the abodes of safety!

اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ اِنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُكَ لَهُمَا فَشَفِّعْهُمَا فِىَّ

O Allah, if Thy forgiveness reaches them first, make them my intercessors,

وَ اِنْ سَبَقَتْ مَغْفِرَتُكَ لِىْ فَشَفِّعْنِىْ فِيْهِمَا

and if Thy forgiveness reaches me first, make me their intercessors,

حَتّٰى نَجْتَمِعَ بِرَاْفَتِكَ فِىْ دَارِ كَرَامَتِكَ وَ مَحَلِّ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ

so that we may gather together through Thy gentleness in the house of Thy generosity and the place of Thy forgiveness and mercy!

اِنَّكَ ذُوْالْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيْمِ وَ الْمَنِّ الْقَدِيْمِ وَ اَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.

Verily Thou art Possessor of abounding bounty and ancient kindness, and Thou art the Most Merciful of the merciful![4]
