دُعَاؤُهُ فِي الِاسْتِعَاذَةِ مِنَ المَكارِهِSeeking
Refuge from Hateful Things
1
O God, I seek refuge in Thee from the agitation of
craving,
أَللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَيَجَـانِ
الْحِرْصِ ،
1
2
the violence of wrath, the domination of envy, the
frailty of patience,
وَسَوْرَةِ الغَضَبِ وَغَلَبَةِ الْحَسَدِ وضَعْفِ
الصَّبْرِ
2
3
the lack of contentment, surliness of character,
وَقِلَّةِ الْقَنَاعَةِ وَشَكَاسَةِ الْخُلُقِ ،
3
4
urgency of passion, the disposition to vehemence,
وَإلْحَاحِ الشَّهْوَةِ ، وَمَلَكَةِ الْحَمِيَّةِ ،
4
5
following caprice, opposing guidance,
وَمُتَابَعَةِ الْهَوَى ، وَمُخَالَفَةِ الْهُدَى ،
5
6
the sleep of heedlessness, undertaking the toilsome,
وَسِنَةِ الْغَفْلَةِ ، وَتَعَاطِي الْكُلْفَةِ ،

preferring falsehood over truth, persisting in sin,
وَإيْثَارِ الْبَاطِلِ عَلَى الْحَقِّ وَالإصْرَارِ
عَلَى الْمَأثَمِ ،

making little of disobedience, making much of
obedience,
وَاسْتِصْغَـارِ الْمَعْصِيَـةِ ، وَاسْتِكْثَارِ
الطَّاعَةِ ،
8
9
vying with the wealthy, disparaging the poor,
وَمُبَاهَاةِ الْمُكْثِرِينَ ، وَالإزْرآءِ
بِالْمُقِلِّينَ ،
9
10
guarding badly over those in our hands,
وَسُوءِ الْوِلاَيَةِ لِمَنْ تَحْتَ أَيْدِينَا

failing to thank those who have done good to us,
وَتَرْكِ الشُّكْرِ لِمَنِ اصْطَنَعَ الْعَارِفَةَ
عِنْدَنَا ،

aiding a wrongdoer, abandoning someone troubled,
أَوْ أَنْ نَعْضُدَ ظَالِماً ، أَوْ نَخْذُلَ
مَلْهُوفاً ،

wanting what is not rightfully ours,
أَوْ نَرُومَ مَا لَيْسَ لَنَا بِحَقّ،

and speaking about knowledge without knowing.
أَوْ نَقُولَ فِي الْعِلْمِْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْم

We seek refuge in Thee from harbouring dishonesty
toward anyone,
وَنَعُـوذُ بِـكَ أَنْ نَنْطَوِيَ عَلَى غِشِّ أَحَد ،
15
16
being pleased with our works, and stretching out our
expectations.
وَأَنْ نُعْجَبَ بِأَعْمَالِنَا ، وَنَمُدَّ فِي
آمَالِنَا ،

17
We seek refuge in Thee from ill-mindedness, looking
down on the small,
وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سُوءِ السَّرِيرَةِ ، وَاحْتِقَارِ
الصَّغِيرَةِ ،
17
18
Satan's gaining mastery over us,
وَأَنْ يَسْتَحْوِذَ عَلَيْنَا الشَّيْطَانُ ،
18
19
time's afflicting us, and the sovereign's oppressing
us.
أَوْ يَنْكُبَنَـا الزَّمَانُ ، أَوْ يَتَهَضَّمَنَا
السُّلْطَانُ.

20
We seek refuge in Thee from acting with prodigality
and not having sufficiency.
وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ تَنَاوُلِ الإسْرَافِ ، وَمِنْ
فِقْدَانِ الْكَفَـافِ
20
21
We seek refuge in Thee from the gloating of enemies,
indigent need for equals,
وَنَعُوذُ بِـكَ مِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ وَمِنَ
الْفَقْرِ إلَى الاَكْفَاءِ
21
22
living in hardship, and dying without readiness.
وَمِنْ مَعِيشَة فِي شِدَّة وَمَيْتَة عَلَى غَيْـرِ
عُدَّة.

We seek refuge in Thee from the most dreadful
remorse,
وَنَعُـوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْحَسْرَةِ الْعُظْمى ،

24
the greatest affliction, the most wretched
wretchedness, the evil end to the journey,
وَالْمُصِيبَةِ الْكُبْرَى ، وَأَشْقَى الشَّقَآءِ
وَسُوءِ المآبِ ،
24
25
the deprivation of reward, and the advent of
punishment.
وَحِرْمَانِ الثَّوَابِ ، وَحُلُولِ الْعِقَابِ.

O God, bless Muhammad and his Household
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ ،
26
27
and through Thy mercy, give to me refuge from all of
that,
وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَلِكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ
27
28
and to all the faithful, both men and women!
وَجَمِيـعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

O Most Merciful of the merciful!
يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ.

O God,
I seek refuge in
Thee from
the agitation of
craving,

the disposition to vehemence,

the sleep of

vying
with the
wealthy,
disparaging the
poor,
guarding badly over those in our
hands,
failing to thank those who have done good to us,
aiding a
wrongdoer,

wanting what is not rightfully
ours,
and
speaking about knowledge without knowing.
We seek refuge in Thee
from harboring dishonesty toward

being pleased with our
works, and

We seek refuge in Thee
from

time's

that,
