My God, You have settled us in an abode which has dug for us pits of deception,

ilaaheee as-kantanaa daarana h'afarat lanaa h'ufara mak-rihaa

إِلـٰهِي أَسْكَنْتَنا داراً حَفَرَتْ لَنا حُفَرَ مَكْرِها

and You have fastened us by the hands of death in the snares of that abode's treachery!

wa a'l-laq-tanaa biy-deel-manaayaa fee h'abaaa-ili
 ghad-rihaa

وَعَلَّقَتْنا بِأَيْدِي الْمَنايا فِي حَبائِلِ غَدْرِها،

In You we seek asylum from the tricks of its guile,

faalay-ka nal-taji-u mim-makaaa-idi khudai'haa

فَإِلَيْكَ نَلْتَجِئُ مِنْ مَكائِدِ خُدَعِها،

and to You we hold fast, lest we be deluded by the glitter of its ornaments!

wa bika naa'-tas'imu minaligh-tiraar bizakhaarifi zeenatihaa

وَبِكَ نَعْتَصِمُ مِنَ الاغْتِرارِ بِزَخارِفِ زِيْنَتِهَا

It destroys its pursuers

fa in-naha al-muh-likatu
 t'ul-laabahaa

فَإِنَّهَا الْمُهْلِكَةُ طُلاَّبَهَا،

and ruins its settlers,

al-mut-lifatu h'ul-laalahaa

الْمُتْلِفَةُ حُلاَّلَهَا،

it is stuffed with blights

al-mah'-shoo-watu bil-aaafaati

الْمَحْشُوَّةُ بِالآفاتِ،

and loaded with calamities.

al-mash-h'oonatu bin-nakabaat

الْمَشْحُونَةُ بِالنَّكَباتِ

My God, induce us to renounce it

ilaahee fazah-hid-na feehaa

إِلـٰهِي فَزَهّـِدْنا فِيها،

and keep us safe from it by Your giving success and Your preservation from sin.

wa sal-lim-naa min-haa
 bitaw-feeqika wa i's'-matika

وَسَلّـِمْنا مِنْها بِتَوْفِيقِكَ وَعِصْمَتِكَ،

Strip from us the robes of opposing You,

wa anzaa' a'n-naa jalaabeeba mukhaalafatik

وَانْزَعْ عَنَّا جَلابِيبَ مُخالَفَتِكَ،

attend to our affairs through Your good sufficiency,

wa tawal-la umooranaa bih'us-ni kifaayatika

وَتَوَلَّ أُمُورَنا بِحُسْنِ كِفايَتِكَ،

amplify our increase from the boundless plenty of Your mercy

wa aw-fir mazeedanaa min saa'ti rah'-matika

وَأَوْفِرْ مَزِيدَنا مِنْ سَعَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ،

be liberal in our gifts from the overflow of Your grants,

wa aj-mil s'ilaatinaa min fay-z''i mawaahibik

وَأَجْمِلْ صِلاتِنا مِنْ فَيْضِ مَواهِبِكَ،

plant in our hearts the trees of Your love,

wagh-ris feee af-idatinaaa
ash-jaara mah'ab-batik

وَأَغْرِسْ فِي أَفْئِدَتِنا أَشْجارَ مَحَبَّتِكَ،

complete for us the lights of Your knowledge,

wa at-mim lanaaa anwaara
maa'-rifatik

وَأَتْمِمْ لَنا أَنْوارَ مَعْرِفَتِكَ،

give us to taste the sweetness of Your pardon

wa ad'iq-naa h'alaawata a'f-wika

وَأَذِقْنا حَلاوَةَ عَفْوِكَ،

and the pleasure of Your forgiveness,

wa lad'-d'ata magh-firatik

وَلَذَّةَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ،

gladden our eyes on the day of meeting You with the vision of You,

wa aq-rir aa'-yunanaa yaw-ma liqaaa-ika biroo-yatik

وَأَقْرِرْ أَعْيُنَنا يَوْمَ لِقائِكَ بِرُؤْيَتِكَ،

dislodge the love of this world from our spirits,

wa akh-rij h'ub-bad-dunyaa min quloobinaa

وَأَخْرِجْ حُبَّ الدُّنْيا مِنْ قُلُوبِنا

just as You have done for the righteous, Your selected friends,

kama faa'l-ta bis'-s'aalih'eena min s'af-watika

كَما فَعَلْتَ بِالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ صَفْوَتِكَ،

and for the pious, those whom You have singled out!

wal-ab-raari min khaaas'-s'atik

وَالأَبْرارِ مِنْ خاصَّتِكَ

Through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful,

birahmatika yaaa ar-h'amar-raah'imeen

بِرَحْمَتِكَ يا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ،

O Most Generous of the most generous!

wa yaaa ak-ramal-ak-rameen

وَيا أَكْرَمَ الأَكْرَمِينَ.
