The Holy Prophet (sa.) had said that during the night of 15th Shaba'an the Almighty takes decisions in the matters of sustenance, life and death and welfare of the people. Next to the “Night of Qadr” the night of 15th Sha’baan is the most auspicious night (also known as “night of Baraat”). According to the Imams Muhammad bin Ali Al Baqir (as.) and Jaa’far bin Muhammad As Sadiq (as.) Allah swt has promised to fulfill every legitimate desire put forward to Him tonight. During this night Allah (swt) bestows on HIS people from HIS bounty & forgives them out of HIS grace & generosity.
Ahadith in the book Iqbalul A‘mal "Therefore, stay awake this night in prayer and worship and encourage your Ummah to also keep awake this night in order to get closer to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) through their actions since this is a noble night. This is a night in which not a single person supplicates to Allah except that his prayers are accepted. Nobody asks for a single thing on this night except that it will be given to him. No one asks Allah for forgiveness except that his sins are wiped out. No one turns in repentance to Allah except that He accepts their repentance. Whoever is deprived of the goodness of this night has definitely been deprived of something great."
Almighty Allah has chosen this night for the Ahl ul-Bayt, in the same way as He has chosen the Qadr Night for our Prophet(peace be upon him and his Family.)
The first thing that that Salik (the Wayfarer on the path towards Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He) must perform on this night is that he must remove the material pleasures and enjoyments of this world from in front of his eyes (and from his heart) and in order to make the most of this special night and ensure that all of his actions are performed properly, he must think to himself that tonight is his last night on this Earth (meaning that tomorrow he shall die) and thus, he will no longer have the opportunity to perform any more good deeds and that tomorrow the Day of Judgment will take place.
It is advisable to stay awake during this full night in prayer as it has many rewards, hadith has confirmed that as for one who spends this whole night with acts of worship, his heart will not die when other hearts die.
As a final act on this night, take account for his own soul and the actions he has performed during the year. A person should sincerely and properly ponder and reflect upon his actions during this year and ask repentance for his previous acts of transgression since it is only those people whom Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has protected from committing sin and error who are free of this pollution. If a person sees that he has little to no sins on his record then he should compare this to one of the most insignificant blessings that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has given him and weigh the two on the scales of justice that with his trivial acts of good, has he been able to repay Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) back for all the goodness He has provided?
If he realizes that he has sins and transgressions on his record, then he must resort to Tawassul to the Ma‘sumin (blessings be upon all of them) to make up for his shortcomings.
He should address the infallible ones by saying following:- "O you who Allah has placed between Himself and His servants! O you who are the protectors of His revelation. I ask you by the position that you have that you look towards me, a sinful servant, with your eyes
of mercy the one who has been lax in his worship, who possesses nothing and is nothing. Have mercy upon me and request Allah to accept me and to be pleased with me on this night and to permit me to be benefit from your prayers and supplications and to
permit me to take advantage of your intercession and to be classified as your Shi‘a. In addition, ask Allah to grant me with the reward of goodness and guidance from you. Pray that He makes me of strong will and that I am successful in performing good deeds for my religion, my life here and my next life".

Shaykh al-Tusy in ‘Misbah al-Mutahajjid’, has narrated a Hadith about the merits of the fifteenth night of Sha`ban entailing that Abu-Yahya asked Imam Ja`far al-sadiq (a.s) about the best of supplications at this night.
The Imam (a.s) instructed him saying: “After you finish the obligatory `Isha' Prayer, you may offer a Two Rak`ah prayer in the first of which you should recite Surah of al-Fatihah and Surah of al-Kafirun and in the second you should recite Surah of al-Fatihah and Surah of al-Tawhid. When you accomplish the prayer,
you may repeat ‘subhanallah’ thirty-three times, ‘alhamdulillah’ thirty-three times,
and ‘allahu-akbar’ thirty-four times.
You may then say the following supplication:
wa ghfir liya aldhdhanba alladhy yahbisu `alayya alkhuluqa
and (please) forgive me the sin that prevents me from enjoying high morals,
wa yudayyiqu `alayya alrrzqa
and suppresses my sustenance,
hatta aquma bisalihi ridaka
so that I will do that which excellently achieves Your satisfaction
wa an`ama bijazili `ata’ika
and I will enjoy Your profuse granting,
wa as`ada bisabighi na`ma’ika
and I will be delighted by Your abundant bounties.
faqad ludhtu biharamika
I am having recourse to Your sanctity,
wa ta`arradtu likaramika
and I am asking for Your generosity,
wasta`adhtu bi`afwika min `uqubatika
and I am taking shelter in Your pardon against Your punishment,
wa bihilmika min ghadabika
and in Your forbearance against Your ire.
fajud bima sa-altuka
So, (please) bestow upon me generously with that which I have asked from You,
wa anil ma altamastu minka
and confer upon me with that which I have begged from You,
asaluka bika la bishay‘in huwa a`zamu minka
I beseech You in Your name, since there is nothing great that You are.
You may prostrate yourself and repeat the following twenty times:
يَا رَبِّ.
ya rabb(i)
O my Lord!
And then repeat the following seven times:
يَا اَللهُ.
ya allah(u)
O Allah!
And then repeat the following seven times:
لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إلاَّ بِاللّهِ.
la hawla wala quwwata illa billah(i)
There is neither might nor power save with Allah.
And then repeat the following ten times
ma sha’allah(u)
Only that which Allah wants (will be).
And then repeat the following ten times :
لا قُوَّةَ إلاَّ بِاللّهِ.
la quwwata illa billahi
There is no power save with Allah.
You may then pray to Almighty Allah for sending blessings upon the Holy Prophet and ask for settling your requests.
It is mentioned in Hadith 'By Allah I swear, even if you pray for needs as many as raindrops, Almighty Allah, out of His generosity and favors, will settle them all.”
It is recommended to offer the prayers that are dedicated to this night. As a matter of fact, these prayers are many. One of them is that which is reported by Abu-Yahya al-San`aniy, as well as other thirty trustworthy individuals, from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s) and Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (a.s) as follows:
At the night of the half of Sha`ban, you may offer a four Rak`ah prayer in each Rak`ah of which you may recite the Surah of al-Fatihah once and the Surah of al-Tawheed one hundred times. After accomplishment, you may say the following supplication:
اللّهُمَّ إنِّي إلَيْكَ فَقِيرٌ،
allahumma inni ilayka faqirun
O Allah: I am in need for You,
wa min `adhabika kha’ifun mustajirun
and I am fearful of You and seeking Your shelter against Your chastisement.
allahumma la tubaddil ismi
O Allah: (please) do not erase my name,
wa la tughayyir jismi
and do not change my body,
wa la tajhad bala’y
and do not increase my ordeals,
wa la tushmit by a`da’y
and do not make my enemies rejoice at my misfortune.
a`udhu bi`afwika min `iqabika
I resort to Your pardon against Your punishment,
wa a`udhu birahmatika min `adhabika
and I resort to Your mercy against Your chastisement,
wa salla allahu `ala muhammadin khatami alnnabiyyina
May Allah send blessings upon Muhammad, the seal of the Prophets,
wa alihi alttahirina
and upon his Household, the immaculate,
wa sallama tasliman
and may He exalt them very much.
inn allaha hamidun majidun
verily, Allah is worthy of all praise, full of all glory.
allahumma inni ad`uka kama amarta
O Allah: I am praying You as You ordered me to do,
fastajib li kama wa`adta
So, (please) respond to me as You promised.
innaka la tukhlifu almi`ada
verily, You never break Your promise.
The Holy Prophet (sawa) used to recite the following in Sajdah tonight after the Shab / Tahajjud prayers: It can also be recited tonight after praying a 10 Raka’t Namaaz in 5 sets of 2 Raka’t each; in each Raka’t recite Soorah Al Faatih’ah once, and Soorah Al Ikhlaas 10 times]
It is recommended to do the prostrations and say the supplications that are reported from the Holy Prophet (a.s).
sajada laka sawady wa khayali
Prostrating before You are my body and my shadow
wa amana bika fu´adi
and my heart is in full faith of You
hadhihi yadaiya wa ma janaytuhu `ala nafsi
These are my two hands and this is what I have committed against myself,
ya `azimu turja likulli `azimin
O the All-great: You are hoped for all enormous things;
aghfir liya al`azima
Please, forgive me my serious offences
because none can forgive the serious sin except the All-great Lord.
The Holy Prophet (a.s) then raised his head and then prostrated himself again, saying:
and has made active all the affairs of the past and the coming generations
min fuj-ati naqimatika
against Your sudden chastisement
wa min tahwili `afiyatika
and against withdrawing the good health that You have granted me
wa min zawal-i ni`matika
and against the vanishing of Your bounties.
allahumma arzuqny qalban taqiyyan naqiyyan
O Allah: (please) grant me a heart that is pious and pure,
wa mina alshshirki bari’an
and is released from polytheism,
la kafiran wa la shaqiyyan
and is neither atheist nor unhappy.
The Holy Prophet (a.s) then attached his face to the ground and said:
عَفَّرْتُ وَجْهِي فِي التُّرَابِ
`affartu wajhy fi altturabi
I am putting my face on the ground
wa huqqa li an asjuda laka
and it is my duty to prostrate myself before You
Holy Prophet (a.s) then said, “Do you know what this night is? This is the night of the half of Sha`ban. At this night, shares of provisions are distributed, ages are decided, and the pilgrims are appointed. Verily, Almighty Allah, at this night, forgives as many of His creatures as the hairs of the goats of Kalb Tribe. Almighty Allah also orders angels to descend to the earth, to Makkah, at this night.” Munaja'at Sha'abaniyah Ibn Khalawayh narrates who commented on it, saying, “This is the confidential prayer of Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin and the Holy Imams (peace be upon them) who used to recite it in the month of Shaban.” It is advisable to recite it with presence of heart all the time.
