Supplication 51 (His supplication when the sustenance was scarce
Explanation
VIDEO
From Amirul Momineen Ali bin Abi Talib, Allah’s blessings be upon him said: One who is having problems regarding his livelihood and the ways of earning are closed on him, he should write the following on deer skin or a piece of leather and hang it on his neck or put it in some clothes that he wears. In place of "So and so son of son and so" put your name and the name of your father.
Then he will not take it off but that Allah will widen his sustenance and open for him doors of earnings from where he has least expected and it is as follows:
<
Allāhumma lā ṭāqata li-Fulāni bni Fulānin bil-juhdi wa lā ṣabra lahu ‘alal-balā’
O Allah, so-and-so, son of so-and-so, has no strength for hardship and no patience for affliction,
wa lā quwwata lahu ‘alal-faqri wal-fāqati Allāhumma faṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa āli Muḥammad
And no power over poverty and need. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,
wa lā taḥẓur ‘alā Fulāni bni Fulānin rizqaka wa lā tuqattir ‘alayhi si‘ata mā ‘indak
And do not withhold Your provision from so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and do not restrict the abundance of what is with You,
wa lā taḥrimhu faḍlaka wa lā taḥsimhu min jazīli qismik
And do not deprive him of Your grace, and do not cut him off from Your ample portion,
wa lā takilhu ilā khalqika wa lā ilā nafsih…
And do not entrust him to Your creation nor to himself…
faya‘jiza ‘anhā wa yaḍ‘ufu ‘anil-qiyāmi fīmā yuṣliḥuhu wa yuṣliḥu mā qablah
Lest he be incapable of it and become too weak to manage what benefits him and sets right what preceded it,
bal tanfaridu bi-lammi sha‘thihi wa tawallī kifāyatihi wanzur ilayhi fī jamī‘i umūrih
Rather, take sole charge of setting his affairs in order, and undertake his sufficiency, and look upon him in all his matters.
Innaka in wakaltahu ilā khalqika lam yanfa‘ūhu wa in alja’tahu ilā aqribā’ihi ḥaramūh
Indeed, if You entrust him to Your creation, they will not benefit him, and if You compel him to seek refuge with his relatives, they will deprive him,
wa in a‘ṭawhu a‘ṭawhu qalīlan nakidan wa in mana‘ūhu mana‘ūhu kathīran
And if they give him, they will give him little, grudgingly, and if they withhold from him, they will withhold much,
wa in bakhilū bakhilū fahum lil-bukhli ahl
And if they are stingy, they will be stingy, for they are people of stinginess.
Allāhumma aghni Fulāna bna Fulānin min faḍlika wa lā tukhluhu minh
O Allah, enrich so-and-so, son of so-and-so, from Your bounty, and do not leave him without it,
fa’innahu muḍṭarrun ilayka faqīrun ilā mā fī yadayka wa anta ghaniyyun ‘anh
For indeed he is compelled towards You, in need of what is in Your hands, and You are independent of him,
wa anta bihi khabīrun ‘alīm…
And You are All-Aware, All-Knowing of him…
wa man yatawakkal ‘alAllāhi fahuwa ḥasbuhu innAllāha bālighu amrih
And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose.
Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
wa man yattaqillāha yaj‘al lahu makhrajan wa yarzuqhu min ḥaythu lā yaḥtasib
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.
57
Allāhumma ṣun wajhī bil-yasār, wa lā tabdhul jāhī bil-iqtār
O Allah, protect my face with ease (sufficiency), and do not disgrace my honor with poverty,
fa-astarziqa ṭālibī rizqika, wa asta'ṭifa shirāra khalqika
Lest I seek provision from those who seek Your provision, and seek the favor of the worst of Your creation,
fa-ubtalā bi-ḥamdi man a'ṭānī, wa aftatina bi-dhammi man mana'anī
Lest I be tested by praising whoever gives me, and be tempted by blaming whoever withholds from me,
wa anta min warā'i dhālika waliyyu al-i'ṭā'i wal-man'i, innaka 'alā kulli shay'in qadīr
While You are, behind all of that, the Master of giving and withholding. Indeed, You are over all things competent.
