and you, my master, are generous and the descendant of the generous people,
wa ma'murun bilddiyafati wal-ijarati
and you are commanded to receive your guests and neighbors hospitably;
fa-adifni wa ajirni
so, receive me as your guest and neighbor.
salawatu allahi `alayka
May Allah’s blessings be upon you
wa `ala ahli baytika alttahirina
and upon your Household, the immaculate.
Shaykh al-Tusi, in Misbah al-Mutahajjid, and Sayyid Ibn Tawus, in Jamal al-Usbu`, have mentioned within the recommended acts on Fridays that it is recommended to visit the Holy Prophet (s) and the Holy Imams (peace be upon him) on Fridays. Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (‘a) is reported to have said that one who intends to visit the tombs of the Holy Prophet, Imam Ali Amir al-Mu'minin, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra', Imam al-Hasan, Imam al-Husayn, and the Holy Imams (as) while he is in a remote place may bathe himself on Friday, put on two clean garbs, go to a desert, -or go up to a housetop, according to another narration- and then offer a four unit prayer reciting any Surah he can recite. When he finishes the prayer, he may stand up, face the kiblah direction, and say the following:
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ ايُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ
alssalamu `alayka ayyuha alnnabiyyu
Peace be upon you, O Prophet
wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu
and be upon you Allah’s mercy and blessings.
wa alssalamu `alaykum wa rahmatu allahi wa barakatuhu
Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you all.
According to numerous narrations, the Holy Prophet (s) is informed about the greeting of those who greet him and the prayers of those who invoke Allah’s blessings upon him wherever they are. In this respect, a Hadith reads that an angel is commissioned to respond to everyone who says,
salla allahu `ala muhammadin wa alihi wa sallama
Allah may send peace and blessings upon Muhammad and his Household,
by saying, “peace be upon you, too.” That angle, then, tells the Holy Prophet (s) that so-and-so has greeted him; therefore, the Holy Prophet (s) says, “May peace be upon him, too.”
According to a narration, the Holy Prophet (saw) has said, “He who visits my tomb after my death will be considered to have immigrated to me in my lifetime. If you cannot visit my tomb, you can send me greetings, for they reach me.”
FRIDAY SALWAAT
It is also advisable to repeat the following words that Imam `Ali (as) mentioned in one of his sermons on Friday, as is cited in the book of al-Rawdah min al-Kafi, representing an invocation of Allah’s blessings upon the Holy Prophet (s):
ana laki musaddiqun sabirun `ala ma ata bihi abuki wa wasiyyuhu salawatu allahi `alayhima
I verify that you were patient about what came upon your father and his his successor peace be upon both of them
wa ana as'aluki in kuntu saddaqtuki
I now beseech you by my belief in you
illa alhaqtini bitasdiqi lahuma
to attach & associate me with my belief in both of them
litusarra nafsi
so that I will be delighted.
fash-hadi anni zahirun biwilayatiki
So, testify for me that I am totally loyal to you
wa wilayati ali baytiki
and to your Household;
salawatu allahi `alayhim ajma`ina
peace of Allah be upon them all.
Peace be on you, O the carefully examined, tried and measured by Him who created you, and found you, in your test, cool and compact, steady and stable.
We tell the truth about you; calm and quiet, with self control and composure (you) put up with all that which your father blessings of Allah be on him and on his family
We beseech you, (If I have stated the truth), to bind us together with the testimony, concerning both of them, in order to give joy and satisfaction to my heart and soul.
So bear witness that truly I, by heart, made evident your, and your children's "wilayat" (superintendent guardianship), blessings of Allah be on them all.
allahumma inni atawala akhirahum kama tawalaytu awwalahum
O Allah, I am willingly showing loyalty to the last of them just as I have shown loyalty to the first of them,
wa abra'u min kulli walijatin dunahum
I release myself from any confidant other than them,
Peace be upon you, O master of the worshippers and descendant of the Prophets’ successors.
