Seek Permission when Visiting

When you intend to visit Imam al-Husayn’s tomb you may stop at the gate of the holy dome, cast your sight on the tomb, and seek permission of admission by saying,

يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

ya mawlaya ya aba `abdillahi
O my master! O Aba`Abdullah!

يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

yabna rasuli allahi
O son of Allah’s Messenger!

عَبْدُكَ وَٱبْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَٱبْنُ امَتِكَ

`abduka wabnu `abdika wabnu amatika
I—your slave and son of your slave and your bondwoman,

ٱلذَّلِيلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

aldhdhalilu bayna yadayka
who stand submissively before you,

وَٱلْمُصَغَّرُ فِي عُلُوِّ قَدْرِكَ

walmusaghgharu fi `uluwwi qadrika
who is worth nothing in comparison with your elevated esteem,

وَٱلْمُعْتَرِفُ بِحَقِّكَ

walmu`tarifu bihaqqika
and who admits your right (that is incumbent upon us)—

جَاءَكَ مُسْتَجيراً بِكَ

ja'aka mustajiran bika
have come to you, seeking your shelter,

قَاصِداً إِلَىٰ حَرَمِكَ

qasidan ila haramika
heading for your sanctuary,

مُتَوَجِّهاً إِلَىٰ مَقَامِكَ

mutawajjihan ila maqamika
turning my face towards Your place,

مُتَوَسِّلاً إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ تَعَالَىٰ بِكَ

mutawassilan ila allahi ta`ala bika
and beseeching Allah in your name.

اادْخُلُ يَا مَوْلاَيَ

a'adkhulu ya mawlaya
May I enter, O my master?

اادْخُلُ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ

a'adkhulu ya waliyya allahi
May I enter, O intimate servant of Allah?

اادْخُلُ يَا مَلاَئِكَةَ ٱللَّهِ

a'adkhulu ya mala'ikata allahi
May I enter, O Allah’s angels

ٱلْمُحْدِقِينَ بِهٰذَا ٱلْحَرَمِ

almuhdiqina bihadha alharami
who surround this sanctuary

ٱلْمُقيمينَ فِي هٰذَا ٱلْمَشْهَدِ

almuqimina fi hadha almashhadi
and reside in this shrine?

If your heart feels reverence and your eyes shed tears, then you may enter by preceding your right foot to your left one. You may then say the following words:

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِٱللَّهِ

bismi allahi wa billahi
In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَفِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

wa fi sabili allahi
on the way of Allah (I proceed),

وَعَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

wa `ala millati rasuli allahi
and the norm of the Messenger of Allah (I follow).

اَللَّهُمَّ انْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلاً مُبَارَكاً

allahumma anzilni munzalan mubarakan
O Allah, (please do) enable me to reside blessedly

وَانْتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنْزِلِينَ

wa anta khayru almunzilina
and You are the best of those who enable to reside.

You may then say the following words:

اللَّهُ اكْبَرُ كَبيراً

allahu akbaru kabiran
Allah is greatly the Most Great.

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثيراً

walhamdu lillahi kathiran
All praise be to Allah abundantly.

وَسُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ بُكْرَةً وَاصيلاًَ

wa subhana allahi bukratan wa asilan
Glory be to Allah in morns and eves.

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلْفَرْدِ ٱلصَّمَدِ

walhamdu lillahi alfardi alssamadi
All praise be to Allah the Single, the Absolute,

ٱلْمَاجِدِ ٱلاحَدِ

almajidi al-ahadi
the Glorious, the One and Only,

ٱلْمُتَفَضِّلِ ٱلْمَنَّانِ

almutafaddili almannani
the All-obliging, the All-benefactor,

ٱلْمُتَطَوِّلِ ٱلْحَنَّانِ

almutatawwili alhannani
the Donor, the All-compassionate

ٱلَّذِي مِنْ تَطَوُّلِهِ

alladhi min tatawwulihi
Who, out of His conferral (upon us) with His bequests,

سَهَّلَ لِي زِيَارَةَ مَوْلاَيَ بِإِحْسَانِهِ

sahhala li ziyarata mawlaya bi'ihsanihi
has made easy for me to visit my master out of His beneficence,

وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي عَنْ زِيَارَتِهِ مَمْنُوعاً

wa lam yaj`alni `an ziyaratihi mamnu`an
Who has not included me with those who are prevented from visiting him

وَلاَ عَنْ ذِمَّتِهِ مَدْفُوعاً

wa la `an dhimmatihi mamnu`an
or those who are rejected from being under his inviolability;

بَلْ تَطَوَّلَ وَمَنَحَ

bal tatawwala wa manaha
rather, He has bestowed upon me and donated me (this favor).

Ziyarat Waritha

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ آدَمَ صَفْوَةِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha adama safwati allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Adam the choice of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوحٍ نَبِيِّ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha nuhin nabiyyi allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Noah the prophet of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha ibrahima khalili allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Abraham the intimate friend of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُوسَىٰ كَلِيمِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha musa kalimi allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Moses the spoken by Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيسَىٰ رُوحِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha `isa ruhi allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Jesus the spirit of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُحَمَّدٍ حَبِيبِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha muhammadin habibi allahi
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Muhammad the most beloved by Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلاَمُ

alssalamu `alayka ya waritha amiri almu'minina
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ

alssalamu `alayka yabna muhammadin almustafa
Peace be upon you, O son of Muhammad the well-chosen Prophet.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ عَلِيٍّ ٱلْمُرْتَضَىٰ

alssalamu `alayka yabna `aliyyin almurtada
Peace be upon you, O son of `Ali the well-pleased.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ فَاطِمَةَ ٱلزَّهْرَاءِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna fatimata alzzahra'i
Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah the luminous lady.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ خَدِيـجَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

alssalamu `alayka yabna khadijata alkubra
Peace be upon you, O son of Khadijah the grand lady.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنَ ثَارِهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya thara allahi wabna tharihi
Peace be upon you, O vengeance of Allah, son of His vengeance,

وَٱلْوِتْرَ ٱلْمَوْتُورَ

walwitra almawtura
and the unavenged so far.

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ قَدْ اقَمْتَ ٱلصَّلاَةَ

ashhadu annaka qad aqamta alssalata
I bear witness that you performed the prayers,

وَآتَيْتَ ٱلزَّكَاةَ

wa atayta alzzakata
defrayed the poor-rate,

وَامَرْتَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

wa amarta bilma`rufi
enjoined the right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنْكَرِ

wa nahayta `an almunkari
forbade the wrong,

وَاطَعْتَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ حَتَّىٰ اتَاكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ

wa ata`ta allaha wa rasulahu hatta ataka alyaqinu
and obeyed Allah and His Messenger until death came upon you.

فَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

fala`ana allahu ummatan qatalatka
So, may Allah curse the people who slew you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً ظَلَمَتْكَ

wa la`ana allahu ummatan zalamatka
May Allah curse the people who persecuted you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضِيَتْ بِهِ

wa la`ana allahu ummatan sami`at bidhalika faradiyat bihi
May Allah curse the people who were pleased when they had heard of that.

يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

ya mawlaya ya aba `abdillahi
O my Master, O Abu-`Abdullah!

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوراً فِي ٱلاصْلاَبِ ٱلشَّامِخَةِ

ashhadu annaka kunta nuran fi al-aslabi alshshamikhati
I bear witness that you were light in the sublime loins

وَٱلارْحَامِ ٱلْمُطَهَّرَةِ

wal-arhami almutahharati
and purified wombs;

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ ٱلْجَاهِلِيَّةُ بِانْجَاسِهَا

lam tunajjiska aljahiliyyatu bi'anjasiha
the impurities of the Ignorance Era could not object you to filth

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ مِنْ مُدْلَهِمَّاتِ ثِيَابِهَا

wa lam tulbiska min mudlahimmati thiyabiha
nor could it dress you its murky clothes.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّكَ مِنْ دَعَائِمِ ٱلدِّينِ

wa ashhadu annaka min da`a'imi alddini
I also bear witness that you are one of the mainstays of the religion

وَارْكَانِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

wa arkani almu'minina
and the supports of the faithful believers.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّكَ ٱلإِمَامُ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلتَّقِيُّ

wa ashhadu annaka al-imamu albarru alttaqiyyu
I also bear witness that you are the God-fearing, pious,

ٱلرَّضِيُّ ٱلزَّكِيُّ

alrradiyyu alzzakiyyu
pleased, immaculate,

ٱلْهَادِي ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ

alhadi almahdiyyu
guide, and well-guided Imam.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلائِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ كَلِمَةُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ

wa ashhadu anna al-a'immata min wuldika kalimatu alttaqwa
And (I bear witness) that the Imams from your progeny are the spokesmen of piety,

وَاعْلاَمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ

wa a`lamu alhuda
the signs of guidance,

وَٱلْعُروَةُ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ

wal`urwatu alwuthqa
the firmest handle (of Islam),

وَٱلْحُجَّةُ عَلَىٰ اهْلِ ٱلدُّنْيَا

walhujjatu `ala ahli alddunya
and the decisive Argument against the inhabitants of the world.

وَاشْهِدُ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلاَئِكَتَهُ

wa ushhidu allaha wa mala'ikatahu
And I call Allah, His angels,

وَانْبِيَاءَهُ وَرُسُلَهُ

wa anbiya'ahu wa rusulahu
His Prophets, and His Messenger

انِّي بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ وَبِإِيَابِكُمْ

anni bikum mu'minun wa bi'yabikum
to witness for me that I believe in you all and in your Return,

مُوقِنٌ بِشَرَائِعِ دِينِي وَخَوَاتِيمِ عَمَلي

muqinun bishara'i`i dini wa khawatimi `amali
I have full confidence in the laws of my religion and in the seals of my deeds,

وَقَلْبِي لِقَلْبِكُمْ سِلْمٌ

wa qalbi liqalbikum silmun
my heart is at peace with you all,

وَامْرِي لاِمْرِكُمْ مُتَّبِعٌ

wa amri li'amrikum muttbi`un
and all my affairs are based on your commands.

صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَىٰ ارْوَاحِكُمْ

salawatu allahi `alaykum wa `ala arwahikum
May Allah’s benedictions be on your souls,

وَعَلَىٰ اجْسَادِكُمْ وَعَلَىٰ اجْسَامِكُمْ

wa `ala ajsadikum wa `ala ajsamikum
your bodies, your forms,

وَعَلَىٰ شَاهِدِكُمْ وَعَلَىٰ غَائِبِكُمْ

wa `ala shahidikum wa `ala gha'ibkum
the present and the absent from you,

وَعَلَىٰ ظَاهِرِكُمْ وَعَلَىٰ بَاطِنِكُمْ

wa `ala zahirikum wa `ala batinikum
and the apparent and the invisible from you.

بِابِي انْتَ وَامِّي يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

bi'abi anta wa ummi yabna rasuli allahi
My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O son of the Messenger of Allah!

بِابِي انْتَ وَامِّي يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

bi'abi anta wa ummi ya aba `abdillahi
My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Aba `Abdullah!

لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ ٱلرَّزِيَّةُ

laqad `azumat alrraziyyatu
Extremely terrible was the calamity

وَجَلَّتِ ٱلْمُصيبَةُ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا

wa jallat almusibatu bika `alayna
and astounding is the misfortune that you suffered upon us

وَعَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ اهْلِ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَٱلارْضِ

wa `ala jami`i ahli alssamawati wal-ardi
and upon all the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth.

فَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً اسْرَجَتْ وَالْجَمَتْ

fala`ana allahu ummatan asrajat wa aljamat
Therefore, Allah may curse the people who saddled up, gave rein to their horses,

وَتَهَيَّاتْ لِقِتَالِكَ

wa tahayya'at liqitalika
and prepared themselves to kill you.

يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَا ابَا عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

ya mawlaya ya aba `abdillahi
O my Master, O Aba `Abdullah!

قَصَدْتُ حَرَمَكَ

qasadtu haramaka
I moved towards your sanctuary

وَاتَيْتُ إِلَىٰ مَشْهَدِكَ

wa ataytu ila mashhadika
and came to your shrine

اسْالُ ٱللَّهَ بِٱلشَّانِ ٱلَّذِي لَكَ عِنْدَهُ

as'alu allaha bilshsha'ni alladhi laka `indahu
beseeching Allah in the name of the standing that you enjoy with Him

وَبِٱلْمَحَلِّ ٱلَّذِي لَكَ لَدَيْهِ

wa bilmahalli alladhi laka ladayhi
and the position that you occupy with Him

انْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

an yusalliya `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
to send blessings on Muhammad and on the Household of Muhammad

وَانْ يَجْعَلَنِي مَعَكُمْ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ

wa an yaj`alani ma`akum fi alddunya wal-akhirati
and to keep me with you in this world and in the Hereafter.

Ziyarat of `Ali ibn al-Husayn (as)
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna rasuli allahi
Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ نَبِيِّ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna nabiyyi allahi
Peace be upon you, O son of the Prophet of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

alssalamu `alayka yabna amiri almu'minina
Peace be upon you, O son of the commander of the faithful.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ ٱلشَّهِيدِ

alssalamu `alayka yabna alhusayni alshshahidi
Peace be upon you, O son of al-Husayn the martyr.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ ايُّهَا ٱلشَّهِيدُ

alssalamu `alayka ayyuha alshshahidu
Peace be upon you, O martyr.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ ايُّهَا ٱلْمَظْلُومُ وَٱبْنُ ٱلْمَظْلُومِ

alssalamu `alayka ayyuha almazlumu wabnu almazlumi
Peace be upon you, O wronged and harassed and the son of the wrong and harassed.

لَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

la`ana allahu ummatan qatalatka
Curse of Allah be on those who killed you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً ظَلَمَتْكَ

wa la`ana allahu ummatan zalamatka
Curse of Allah be on those who persecuted you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضَيِتْ بِهِ

wa la`ana allahu ummatan sami`at bidhalika faradiyat bihi
Curse of Allah be on those who heard this even but rested satisfied.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَلِيَّ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنَ وَلِيِّهِ

alssalamu `alayka ya waliyya allahi wabna waliyyihi
Peace be upon you, O intimate servant of Allah and the son of His intimate servant.

لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ ٱلْمُصيبَةُ

laqad `azumat almusibatu
Extremely terrible was the calamity

وَجَلَّتِ ٱلرَّزِيَّةُ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا

wa jallat alrraziyyatu bika `alayna
and astounding is the misfortune that you suffered, upon us

وَعَلَىٰ جَمِيعِ ٱلْمُسْلِمينَ

wa `ala jami`i almuslimina
and upon all Muslims.

فَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً قَتَلَتْكَ

fala`ana allahu ummatan qatalatka
So, curse of Allah be on those who killed you

وَابْرَا إِلَىٰ ٱللَّهِ وَإِلَيْكَ مِنْهُمْ

wa abra'u ila allahi wa ilayka minhum
and I disavow them in the presence of Allah and You.

Ziyarat of all Martyrs (Tamam Shohada)
اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اوْلِيَاءَ ٱللَّهِ وَاحِبَّائَهُ

alssalamu `alaykum ya awliya'a allahi wa ahibba'ahu
Peace be upon all of you, O friends and dears of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا اصْفِيَاءَ ٱللَّهِ وَاوِدَّاءَهُ

alssalamu `alaykum ya asfiya'a allahi wa awidda'ahu
Peace be upon all of you, O choice of Allah and sincerely attached to Him.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ دِينِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara dini allahi
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of Allah’s religion.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara rasuli allahi
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of the Messenger of Allah.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ امِيرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara amiri almu'minina
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of the Commander of the Faithful.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara fatimata sayyidati nisa'i al`alamina
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of Fatimah the doyenne of the women of this world.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ ابِي مُحَمَّدٍ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara abi muhammadin
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of Abi Mhammad,

ٱلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ٱلْوَلِيِّ ٱلنَّاصِحِ

alhasani ibni `aliyyin alwaliyyi alnnasihi
al-Hasan the son of `Ali, the saintly and sincere.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا انْصَارَ ابِي عَبْدِ ٱللَّهِ

alssalamu `alaykum ya ansara abi `abdillahi
Peace be upon all of you, O supporters of Aba-`Abdullah.

بِابِي انْتُمْ وَامِّي

bi'abi antum wa ummi
My father and mother be sacrificed for you.

طِبْتُمْ وَطَابَتِ ٱلارْضُ ٱلَّتِي فِيهَا دُفِنْتُمْ

tibtum wa tabat al-ardu allati fiha dufintum
Verily, pure be you and pure be the soil in which you were buried.

وَفُزْتُمْ فَوْزاً عَظيماً

wa fuztum fawzan `aziman
You attained great success.

فَيَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ فَافُوزَ مَعَكُمْ

fayalaytani kuntu ma`akum fa'afuza ma`akum
Would that I were with you so that I could also share the accomplishment with you.

Ziyarat Abl Fazl Abbas(as)

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَیْکَ یَابْنَ اَمِیْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِیْن

Peace be upon you O son of Ameerul Momineen

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَیْکَ اَیُّہَا الْعَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ الْمُطِیْعُ لِلّٰہِ وَ لِرَسُوْلِہٖ

Peace be upon you O righteous servant (of Allah), and obedient to Allah, to His Messenger,

اَشْہَدُ اَنَّکَ قَدْ جَاہَدْتَ

I testify that you that you did jihad &

وَ نَصَحْتَ وَ صَبَرْتَ حَتّٰی اَتٰیکَ الْیَقِیْنُ

was patient until death came to you

لَعْنَ اﷲُ الظَّالِمِیِن لَکُمْ مِنَ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ وَالْآخِرِیْنَ وَ اَلْحِقْہُمْ بِدَرَکِ الْجَحِیْمِ.

So, Allah’s curse be on the group who killed you from the first to the last & may they be in hell forever

After Ziyarat

You may then offer a two-unit prayer and when you finish, you may say the following words:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَكَ صَلَّيْتُ

allahumma inni laka sallaytu
O Allah, I have offered a prayer for You

وَلَكَ رَكَعْتُ وَلَكَ سَجَدْتُ

wa laka raka`tu wa laka sajadtu
and I have genuflected and prostrated myself for You

وَحْدَكَ لاََ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

wahdaka la sharika laka
alone without setting any partner to You,

فَإِنَّهُ لاََ تَجُوزُ ٱلصَّلاَةُ

fa'innahu la tajuzu alssalatu
because prayers,

وَٱلرُّكُوعُ وَٱلسُّجُودُ إِلاَّ لَكَ

walrruku`u walssujudu illa laka
genuflections, and prostrations are illegal for anyone save You,

لاِنَّكَ انْتَ ٱللَّهُ لاََ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ انْتَ

li'annaka anta allahu alladhi la ilaha illa anta
because You are Allah; there is no god save You.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍٍ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَابْلِغْهُمْ عَنِّي افْضَلَ ٱلسَّلاَمِ وَٱلتَّحِيَّةِ

wa ablighhum `anni afdala alssalami walttahiyyati
convey to them the most favorite salutations and greetings from me,

وَٱرْدُدْ عَلَيَّ مِنْهُمُ ٱلسَّلاَمَ

wardud `alayya minhum alssalama
and convey to me their response to my greeting.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَهَاتَانِ ٱلرَّكْعَتَانِ هَدِيَّةٌ مِنِّي

allahumma wa hatani alrrak`atani hadiyyatun minni
O Allah, these two units of prayer are a present from me

إِلَىٰ سَيِّدِي ٱلْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ

ila sayyidi alhusayni ibni `aliyyin
to my master al-Husayn the son of `Ali,

عَلَيْهِمَا ٱلسَّلاَمُ

`alayhima alssalamu
peace be upon both of them.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَيْهِ

allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa `alayhi
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon him,

وَتَقَبَّلْهُمَا مِنِّي وَٱجْزِنِي عَليْهِمَا

wa taqabbalhuma minni wajzini `alayhima
accept these two units of prayer from me, and reward me for them

افْضَلَ امَلِي وَرَجَائِي فِيكَ وَفِي وَلِيِّكَ

afdala amali wa raja'i fika wa fi waliyyika
by granting me the best of my hope and expectation in you and in Your Friend,

يَا وَلِيَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

ya waliyya almu'minina
O Guardian of the believers!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ

alssalamu `ala alhusayni ibni `aliyyin
Peace be upon al-Husayn the son of `Ali,

ٱلْمَظْلُومِ ٱلشَّهِيدِ

almazlumi alshshahidi
the wronged and martyred,

قَتِيلِ ٱلْعَبَرَاتِ

qatili al`abarati
the victim of shed tears,

وَاسِيرِ ٱلْكُرُبَاتِ

wa asiri alkurubati
and the captive of agonies.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي اشْهَدُ انَّهُ وَلِيُّكَ وَٱبْنُ وَلِيِّكَ

allahumma inna ashhadu annahu waliyyuka wabnu waliyyika
O Allah, I do bear witness that he is Your intimate friend and the son of Your intimate friend

وَصَفِيُّكَ ٱلثَّائِرُ بِحَقِّكَ

wa safiyyuka alththa'iru bihaqqika
and Your choicest one who revolted to demand with Your right.

اكْرَمْتَهُ بِكَرَامَتِكَ

akramtahu bikaramatika
You have thus honored him with Your honor,

وَخَتَمْتَ لَهُ بِٱلشَّهَادَةِ

wa khatamta lahu bilshshahadati
sealed his lifetime with martyrdom,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ سَيِّداً مِنَ ٱلسَّادَةِ

wa ja`altahu sayyidan min alssadati
made him one of the chiefs

وَقَائِداً مِنَ ٱلْقَادَةِ

wa qa'idan min alqadati
and one of the leaders,

وَاكْرَمْتَهُ بِطِيبِ ٱلْوِلاَدَةِ

wa akramtahu bitibi alwiladati
honored him with immaculate birth,

وَاعْطَيْتَهُ مَوَاريثَ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ

wa a`taytahu mawaritha al-anbiya'i
gave him the inheritances of the prophets,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ حُجَّةً عَلَىٰ خَلْقِكَ مِنَ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ

wa ja`altahu hujjatan `ala khalqika min al-awsiya'i
and made him argument against Your creatures and one of the Successors.

فَاعْذَرَ فِي ٱلدُّعَاءِ

fa'a`dhara fi alddu`a'i
So, he called to You flawlessly,

وَمَنَحَ ٱلنَّصِيحَةَ

wa manaha alnnasihata
gave advice,

وَبَذَلَ مُهْجَتَهُ فِيكَ

wa badhala muhjatahu fika
and sacrificed himself for Your sake

حَتَّىٰ ٱسْتَنْقَذَ عِبَادَكَ مِنَ ٱلْجَهَالَةِ وَحَيْرَةِ ٱلضَّلاَلَةِ

hatta istanqadha `ibadaka min aljahalati wa hayrati alddalalati
until he could save Your servants from ignorance and perplexity of straying off.

وَقَدْ تَوَازَرَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ غَرَّتْهُ ٱلدُّنْيَا

wa qad tawazara `alayhi man gharrat-hu alddunya
Yet, those whom were seduced by this worldly life,

وَبَاعَ حَظَّهُ مِنَ ٱلآخِرَةِ بِٱلادْنَىٰ

wa ba`a hazzahu min al-akhirati bil-adna
those who sold their share of the Hereafter with the lowly price,

وَتَرَدَّىٰ فِي هَوَاهُ

wa taradda fi hawahu
those who perished because of following their desires,

وَاسْخَطَكَ وَاسْخَطَ نَبِيَّكَ

wa askhataka wa askhata nabiyyaka
those who brought to themselves Your wrath and the wrath of Your Prophet,

وَاطَاعَ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ اوْلِي ٱلشِّقَاقِ وَٱلنِّفَاقِ

wa ata`a min `ibadika uli alshshiqaqi walnnifaqi
and those who obeyed the dissident and hypocritical servants of You

وَحَمَلَةَ ٱلاوْزَارِ ٱلْمُسْتَوْجِبِينَ ٱلنَّارَ

wa hamalata al-awzari almustawjibina alnnara
and the bearers of the burdens (of sins) who deserve Hellfire—all those supported each other against him;

فَجَاهَدَهُمْ فِيكَ صَابِراً مُحْتَسِباً

fajahadahum fika sabiran muhtasiban
so, he fought against them with steadfastness and expectation of Your reward,

مُقْبِلاًَ غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ

muqbilan ghayra mudbirin
facing them courageously, never turning back,

لاََ تَاخُذُهُ فِي ٱللَّهِ لَوْمَةُ لاَئِمٍ

la ta'khudhuhu fi allahi lawmatu la'imin
and never fearing the blame of anyone concerning carrying out his duty towards You

حَتَّىٰ سُفِكَ فِي طَاعَتِكَ دَمُهُ

hatta sufika fi ta`atika damuhu
until his blood was shed while he was in obedience to You

وَٱسْتُبيحَ حَرِيـمُهُ

wastubiha harimuhu
and his inviolability was also infringed.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱلْعَنْهُمْ لَعْناً وَبِيلاًَ

allahumma il`anhum la`nan wabilan
O Allah, curse them with incessant curses

وَعَذِّبْهُمْ عَذَاباً الِيماً

wa `adhdhibhum `adhaban aliman
and chastise them with painful chastisement.
