According to ad tradition on the authority of a valid chain of authority, Imam al-diq (`a) has said, Whoever visits the tomb of al-usayn at one of the following three nights, will have all his sins forgiven by Almighty Allah, including the past and the coming: the night before `d al-Fir Day, the night before `d al-Ah Day, and the mid-Sha`bn night.
Imam al-diq (`a) is reported to have said, If one visits al-usayn ibn `Al at the mid-Sha`bn night, the `d al-Fir night, and the `Araft night in the same year, Almighty Allah will record for him the reward of one thousand times of admissible hajj and one thousand times of acceptable `umrah and will grant him one thousand requests for this world and the Hereafter.
Imam al-Bqir (`a) is reported to have said, Whoever spends the `Araft Night in the land of Karbal' and resides to spend the `Araft Day there and then leaves, Almighty Allah shall save him from the evils of that year.
It is worth mentioning that scholars have dedicated two forms of ziyrah to these two blessed feast days (i.e. `d al-Fir and `d al-Ah). The first form has been previously cited as the ziyrah form at the Qadr Nights, while the other is the following. What is apparently understood from the words of the scholars is that the first form of ziyrah is said when one visits the holy shrine on the two days of `d al-Fir and `d al-Ah, while the following form is said when the holy shrine is visited at the two nights before these two days.
When you intend to visit Imam al-usayns tomb at these two nights, you may stop at the gate of the holy dome, cast your sight on the tomb, and seek permission of admission by saying,
y mawlya y ab `abdillhi |
O my master! O Aba`Abdullah! |
yabna rasli allhi |
O son of Allahs Messenger! |
`abduka wabnu `abdika wabnu amatika |
Iyour slave and son of your slave and your bondwoman, |
aldhdhallu bayna yadayka |
who stand submissively before you, |
walmuaghgharu f `uluwwi qadrika |
who is worth nothing in comparison with your elevated esteem, |
walmu`tarifu bihaqqika |
and who admits your right (that is incumbent upon us) |
j'aka mustajran bika |
have come to you, seeking your shelter, |
qidan il haramika |
heading for your sanctuary, |
mutawajjihan il maqmika |
turning my face towards Your place, |
mutawassilan il allhi ta`l bika |
and beseeching Allah in your name. |
a'adkhulu y mawlya |
May I enter, O my master? |
a'adkhulu y waliyya allhi |
May I enter, O intimate servant of Allah? |
a'adkhulu y mal'ikata allhi |
May I enter, O Allahs angels |
almuhdiqna bihdh alharami |
who surround this sanctuary |
almuqmna f hdh almashhadi |
and reside in this shrine? |
If your heart feels reverence and your eyes shed tears, then you may enter by preceding your right foot to your left one. You may then say the following words:
bismi allhi wa billhi |
In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust), |
wa f sabli allhi |
on the way of Allah (I proceed), |
wa `al millati rasli allhi |
and the norm of the Messenger of Allah (I follow). |
allhumma anziln munzalan mubrakan |
O Allah, (please do) enable me to reside blessedly |
wa anta khayru almunzilna |
and You are the best of those who enable to reside. |
You may then say the following words:
allhu akbaru kabran |
Allah is greatly the Most Great. |
walhamdu lillhi kathran |
All praise be to Allah abundantly. |
wa subhna allhi bukratan wa alan |
Glory be to Allah in morns and eves. |
walhamdu lillhi alfardi alamadi |
All praise be to Allah the Single, the Absolute, |
almjidi al-ahadi |
the Glorious, the One and Only, |
almutafaili almannni |
the All-obliging, the All-benefactor, |
almutaawwili alhannni |
the Donor, the All-compassionate |
alladh min taawwulih |
Who, out of His conferral (upon us) with His bequests, |
sahhala l ziyrata mawlya bi'ihsnih |
has made easy for me to visit my master out of His beneficence, |
wa lam yaj`aln `an ziyratih mamn`an |
Who has not included me with those who are prevented from visiting him |
wa l `an dhimmatih mamn`an |
or those who are rejected from being under his inviolability; |
bal taawwala wa manaha |
rather, He has bestowed upon me and donated me (this favor). |
You may then enter the shrine. When you reach its center, you may stop near the tomb with reverence, weeping, and submission, and say the following words: MP3

Peace be upon you, O vengeance of Allah, son of His vengeance, and the unavenged so far. |
ashhadu annaka qad aqamta alalta |
I bear witness that you performed the prayers, |
wa tayta alzzakta |
defrayed the poor-rate, |
wa amarta bilma`rfi |
enjoined the right, |
wa nahayta `an almunkari |
forbade the evil, |
wa jhadta f allhi haqqa jihdih |
and strove for the sake of Allah as exactly as strife must be |
hatt istubha haramuka wa qutilta malman |
until your inviolability was violated and you were slain wrongfully. |
You may then stop at the side of the Imams head with submissive heart and teary eyes and say the following words:
alssalmu `alayka y ab `abdillhi |
Peace be upon you, O Aba-`Abdullah. |

and purified wombs. |
lam tunajjiska aljhiliyyatu bi'anjsih |
The ignorance could not stain you with its impurities |
wa lam tulbiska min mudlahimmti thiybih |
or dress you its gloomy garbs. |
wa ashhadu annaka min da`'imi alddni |
I also bear witness that you are one of the pillars of the religion, |
wa arkni almuslimna |
the supports of Muslims, |
wa ma`qili almu'minna |
and the havens of the faithful believers. |

I also bear witness that the Imams from your progeny |

are the spokesmen of piety, the signs of guidance, |
wal`urwatu alwuthq |
the firmest handle (of Islam), |
walhujjatu `al ahli aldduny |
and the arguments against the inhabitants of this world. |
You may then throw yourself on the tomb and say the following words:
inn lillhi wa inn ilayhi rji`na |
To Allah we belong and to Him is our return. |
y mawlya an muwlin liwaliyyikum |
O my master, I am loyal to your loyalists |

and enemy of your enemies. |
wa an bikum mu'minun wa bi'iybikum |
I also believe in you all and in your Return |
mqinun bisharyi`i dn |
and I have full confidence in the laws of my religion |
wa khawtmi `amal |
and in the seals of my deeds. |
wa qalb liqalbikum silmun |
My heart is at peace with your heart |
wa amr li'amrikum muttabi`un |
and all my affairs are following your commands. |
y mawlya ataytuka kh'ifan fa'minn |
O my master, I have come to you fearful; so, (please) secure me. |
wa ataytuka mustajran fa'ajirn |
I have come to you seeking shelter; so, (please) grant me shelter. |
wa ataytuka faqran fa'aghnin |
I have come to you deprived; so, (please) grant me wealth. |
sayyid wa mawlya |
My chief and master, |
you are, O my master, Allahs argument against all of His creatures. |
mantu bisirrikum wa `alniyatikum |
I believe in your secret and open affairs, |
wa bihirikum wa binikum |
in your visible and invisible affairs, |
wa awwalikum wa khirikum |
and in the foremost and the last of you. |
wa ashhadu annaka alttl likitbi allhi wa amnu allhi |
I also bear witness that you have recited the Book of Allah and you are the Trustee of Allah, |
aldd` il allhi bilhikmati walmaw`iati alhasanati |
who calls to Allah with wisdom and excellent exhortation. |
la`ana allhu ummatan alamatka |
May Allah curse the people who wronged you. |
wa la`ana allhu ummatan sami`at bidhlika faraiyat bih |
May Allah curse the people who were pleased when they heard of that. |
You may then offer a two-unit prayer to the side of the Imams head and when you finish, you may say the following words: Mp3
allhumma inn laka allaytu |
O Allah, I have offered a prayer for You |
wa laka raka`tu wa laka sajadtu |
and I have genuflected and prostrated myself for You |
wahdaka l sharka laka |
alone without setting any partner to You, |
fa'innah l tajzu alaltu |
because prayers, |
walrruk`u walssujdu ill laka |
genuflections, and prostrations are illegal for anyone save You, |
li'annaka anta allhu alladh l ilha ill anta |
because You are Allah; there is no god save You. |
allhumma alli `al muhammadin wa li muhammadin |
O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, |
wa ablighhum `ann afala alssalmi walttahiyyati |
convey to them the most favorite salutations and greetings from me, |
wardud `alayya minhum alssalma |
and convey to me their response to my greeting. |
allhumma wa htni alrrak`atni hadiyyatun minn |
O Allah, these two units of prayer are a present from me |
il sayyid alhusayni ibni `aliyyin |
to my master al-Husayn the son of `Ali, |
`alayhim alssalmu |
peace be upon both of them. |
allhumma alli `al muhammadin wa `alayhi |
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon him, |
wa taqabbalhum minn wajzin `alayhim |
accept these two units of prayer from me, and reward me for them |
afala amal wa raj' fka wa f waliyyika |
by granting me the best of my hope and expectation in you and in Your Friend, |
y waliyya almu'minna |
O Guardian of the believers! |
You may then throw yourself on the tomb, kiss it, and say the following words:
alssalmu `al alhusayni ibni `aliyyin |
Peace be upon al-Husayn the son of `Ali, |
almalmi alshshahdi |
the wronged and martyred, |
qatli al`abarti |
the victim of shed tears, |
wa asri alkurubti |
and the captive of agonies. |
allhumma inn ashhadu annah waliyyuka wabnu waliyyika |
O Allah, I do bear witness that he is Your intimate friend and the son of Your intimate friend |
wa afiyyuka althth'iru bihaqqika |
and Your choicest one who revolted to demand with Your right. |
akramtah bikarmatika |
You have thus honored him with Your honor, |
wa khatamta lah bilshshahdati |
sealed his lifetime with martyrdom, |
wa ja`altah sayyidan min alssdati |
made him one of the chiefs |
wa q'idan min alqdati |
and one of the leaders, |
wa akramtah bibi alwildati |
honored him with immaculate birth, |
wa a`aytah mawrtha al-anbiy'i |
gave him the inheritances of the prophets, |
wa ja`altah hujjatan `al khalqika min al-awiy'i |
and made him argument against Your creatures and one of the Successors. |
fa'a`dhara f alddu`'i |
So, he called to You flawlessly, |
wa manaha alnnahata |
gave advice, |
wa badhala muhjatah fka |
and sacrificed himself for Your sake |
hatt istanqadha `ibdaka min aljahlati wa hayrati alallati |
until he could save Your servants from ignorance and perplexity of straying off. |
wa qad tawzara `alayhi man gharrat-hu aldduny |
Yet, those whom were seduced by this worldly life, |
wa b`a haah min al-khirati bil-adn |
those who sold their share of the Hereafter with the lowly price, |
wa taradd f hawhu |
those who perished because of following their desires, |
wa askhaaka wa askhaa nabiyyaka |
those who brought to themselves Your wrath and the wrath of Your Prophet, |
wa a`a min `ibdika ul alshshiqqi walnnifqi |
and those who obeyed the dissident and hypocritical servants of You |
wa hamalata al-awzri almustawjibna alnnra |
and the bearers of the burdens (of sins) who deserve Hellfireall those supported each other against him; |
fajhadahum fka biran muhtasiban |
so, he fought against them with steadfastness and expectation of Your reward, |
muqbilan ghayra mudbirin |
facing them courageously, never turning back, |
l ta'khudhuh f allhi lawmatu l'imin |
and never fearing the blame of anyone concerning carrying out his duty towards You |
hatt sufika f `atika damuh |
until his blood was shed while he was in obedience to You |
wastubha harmuh |
and his inviolability was also infringed. |
allhumma il`anhum la`nan wablan |
O Allah, curse them with incessant curses |
wa `adhdhibhum `adhban alman |
and chastise them with painful chastisement. |
You may then turn to `Al ibn al-usayn (`a), who is buried to the side of Imam al-usayns feet, and say the following words:
alssalmu `alayka y waliyya allhi |
Peace be upon you, O Allahs intimate servant. |
alssalmu `alayka yabna rasli allhi |
Peace be upon you, O son of Allahs Messenger. |
alssalmu `alayka yabna khtami alnnabiyyna |
Peace be upon you, O son of the seal of the prophets. |
alssalmu `alayka yabna fimata |
Peace be upon you, O son of Fimah |
sayyidati nis'i al`lamna |
the doyenne of the women of the worlds. |
alssalmu `alayka yabna amri almu'minna |
Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful. |
alssalmu `alayka ayyuh almalmu alshshahdu |
Peace be upon you, O persecuted and martyred. |
bi'ab anta wa umm |
May Allah accept my father and my mother as ransoms for you. |
`ishta sa`dan |
You lived happily |
wa qutilta malman shahdan |
and were killed as wronged and martyred. |
You may then turn to the tombs of the martyrsmay Allahs pleasure be upon themand say the following words:
alssalmu `alaykum ayyuh aldhdhbbna `an tawhdi allhi |
Peace be upon you all, O defenders of (the faith of) Allahs Oneness. |
alssalmu `alaykum bim abartum |
Peace be upon you because you were constant. |
fani`ma `uqb alddri |
How excellent then the issue of the abode is. |
bi'ab antum wa umm |
May Allah accept my father and my mother as ransoms for you. |
fuztum fawzan `aman |
You achieved a great success. |
You may then walk to the shrine of al-`Abbs ibn `Al, stop at his holy tomb, and say the following words:
alssalmu `alayka ayyuh al`abdu allihu waliddqu almuws |
Peace be upon you, O righteous servant (of Allah) and veracious self-sacrificing. |
ashhadu annaka manta billhi |
I bear witness that you believed in Allah, |
wa naarta ibna rasli allhi |
supported the son of Allahs Messenger, |
wa da`awta il sabli allhi |
called to the way of Allah, |
wa wsayta binafsika |
and sacrificed yourself for Him. |
fa`alayka min allhi afalu alttahiyyati walssalmi |
So, the most favorite greetings and compliments of Allah be upon you. |
You may now throw yourself on the tomb and say the following words:
bi'ab anta wa umm y nira dni allhi |
May Allah accept my father and mother as ransoms for you, O supporter of Allahs religion. |
alssalmu `alayka y nira alhusayni aliddqi |
Peace be upon you, O supporter of al-usayn the veracious. |
alssalmu `alayka y nira alhusayni alshshahdi |
Peace be upon you, O supporter of al-usayn the martyr. |
`alayka minn alssalmu |
Peace from me be upon you |
m baqtu wa baqiya allaylu walnnahru |
as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night. |
You may then stand up to offer a two-unit prayer to the side of his head and then repeat the same words that you have said after offering a prayer at Imam al-usayns shrine. These words, which have been previously cited, begin with the following statement:
allhumma inn laka allaytu |
O Allah, I have offer a prayer for You |
wa laka raka`tu wa laka sajadtu |
and I have genuflected and prostrated myself for You |
You may then return to the shrine of Imam al-usayn (`a) to reside there for any period you like. However, it is recommended not to appoint the holy shrine as ones place of residence and spending the night there.
If you intend to leave and bid farewell to the Imam (`a), you may stop at the side of the head and say the following words while weeping:
alssalmu `alayka y mawlya |
Peace be upon you, O my master. |
salma muwaddi`in l qlin wa l sa'imin |
This is the greeting of one who has to bid you farewell although he is neither bored with you nor tired of you. |
fa'in anarif fal `an mallatin |
If I leave (you), this is not because of weariness, |
wa in uqim fal `an s'i annin |
and if I reside, this is not because of mistrusting |
bim wa`ada allhu albirna |
the promise that Allah has made for the serene ones. |
y mawlya l ja`alah allhu khira al`ahdi minn liziyratika |
O my master, may Allah not decide this time of my visit to you to be the last |
wa razaqan al`awda ilayka |
and may He endue me with more chances to re-visit you, |
walmaqma f haramika |
to reside in your sanctuary, |
walkawna f mashhadika |
and to be in your presence. |
mna rabba al`lamna |
Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds! |
You may then kiss the tomb and try to pass your entire body over it, because this tomb is security and protection. You may then leave it by walking backwards without giving your back to the tomb. You may say the following words:
alssalmu `alayka y bba almaqmi |
Peace be upon you, O door to the High Position. |
alssalmu `alayka y sharka alqur'ni |
Peace be upon you, O partner of the Quran. |
alssalmu `alayka y hujjata alkhimi |
Peace be upon you, O argument against disputants. |
alssalmu `alayka y safnata alnnajti |
Peace be upon you, O ark of salvation. |
alssalmu `alaykum y mal'ikata rabb |
Peace be upon you all, O angels of my Lord |
almuqmna f hdh alharami |
who are residing in this sanctuary. |
alssalmu `alayka abadan |
Peace be upon you forever |
m baqtu wa baqiya allaylu walnnahru |
as long as I am existent and as long as there are day and night. |
You may also say the following words:
inn lillhi wa inn ilayhi rji`na |
To Allah we belong and to Him is our return. |
wa l hawla wa l quwwata ill billhi al`aliyyi al`ami |
There is neither might nor power except with Allah the All-high and All-great. |
You may then leave.
Sayyid Ibn ws and Muhammad ibn al-Mashhad said, If you do all these devotional acts (correctly), you will be as if you have visited Almighty Allah in His Divine Throne.
