Fatimatuz-Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet (s), peace be on them, is to have thus related ( an event ) : | an faat'imataz-zah-raaa-i (alayhas-salaam) binti rasoolil-laahi (S) qaalat : | عَنْ فاطِمَةَ الزَّهْراءِ عَلَيْهَا اَلسلام بِنْتِ رَسُول ِاللّه صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ أَنَّها قالَتْ : |
My father, the Prophet (s) of Allah, came to my house one day and said to me: | dakhala a'lay-ya abee rasoolul-laahi (S) fee baa'-z'il ay-yaami faqaala : | دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ أَبِي رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ فِي بَعْضِ الاْيَّامِ فَقالَ: |
"Peace be on you, Fatimah" | as-salaamu a'lay-ki yaa faat'imah |

He said : "Fatimah, please bring the Yemeni cloak and cover me with it" | faqaala : yaa faat'imatu ee-teenee bil-kasaaa-il-yamaanee faghat-teenee bihi | فَقَالَ: يَا فَاطِمَةُ! |
So, I brought the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it. | fa atay-tuhoo bil-kisaaa-il-yamaanee faghat-tay-tuhoo bihi |

like a full moon with its glory and splendor | kaan-nahul-bad-ru fee lay-lati tamaamihee wa kamaalih | كَأَنَّهُ الْبَدْرُ فِي لَيْلَة تَمامِهِ وَكَمالِهِ |

Getting together underneath the cloak, my father, the Prophet (s) of Allah, held the two ends of the cloak | fal-lamak-tamal-naa jamee-a'n tah'-tal-kisaaa-i akhad'a abee rasoolul-laahi bitarafayil-kisaaa-i | فَلَمَّا اكْتَمَلْنا جَمِيعاً تَحْتَ الْكِساءِ أَخَذَ أَبِي رَسُولُ اللّه بِطَرَفَي الْكِساءِ |
and raised his right hand towards the heavens and prayed : | wa aw-maa biyadihil-yum-naa ilas-samaaa-i wa qaala : | وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ ٱلْيُمْـنٰى إِلَى السَّماءِ وَقالَ: |

Their flesh is my flesh and their blood is my blood. | lah'-muhum lah'-mee wa damuhum damee |
Whoever hurts them, hurts me too. | yu-limunee maa yu-limuhum |
Whoever displeases them, displeases me too. | wa yah'-zununee maa yah'-zunuhum |
I am at war with those who are at war with them. | ana h'ar-bul-liman h'aarabahum |
I am at peace with those who are at peace with them. | wa sil-mul-liman saalamahum |
I am the enemy of their enemies | wa a'doo-wul-liman a'adaahum |

They are from me and I am from them. | in-nahum-min-nee wa ana min-hum |
O Allah! Bestow Your Blessings, Benevolence, | faj-a'l s'alawaatika wa barakaatika wa rah'-matika |

Then the Lord, Almighty Allah said : | faqaalal-laahoo az'-za wa jal-la : |
"O My angels! O Residents of My Heavens, | yaa malaaa-ikatee wa yaa suk-kaana samaawaateee | يَا مَلائِكَتِي وَيَا سُكَّانَ سَمَاواتِي |
verily, I have not created the erected Sky, the stretched earth, the illuminated moon, | in-nee maa khalaq-tu samaa-am-mab-nee-yataw-wa laa ar-z'am-mad-h'ee-yataw-wa laa qamaram-muneeraw- | إِنِّي إمَا خَلَقْتُ سَماءً مَبْنِيَّةً وَلاَ أَرْضاً مَدْحِيَّةً وَلاَ قَمَراً مُنِيراً |

but for the love of these Five underneath the cloak" | il-laa fee mah'ab-bati haa-ulaaa-il-kham-satil-lad'ee-na hum tah'-tal-kisaaa | إِلاَّ فِي مَحَبَّةِ هَؤلاءِ الْخَمْسَةِ الَّذِينَ هُمْ تَحْتَ الْكِساءِ. |
Gabriel, the trusted angel, asked : "Who are under the cloak?" | faqaalal-ameenu jib-raaa-ee-lu : yaa rab-bi wa man tah'-tal-kisaaa |
The Almighty answered : | faqaala a'z-za wa jal-la : |
"They are the Household of the Prophet (s) and the assets of Prophet hood.
They are : Fatimah, her father, her husband and her two sons" | hum : faat'imatu wa aboohaa wa baa'-luhaa wa banoo-haa | هُمْ فاطِمَةُ وَأَبُوها وَبَعْلُها وَبَنُوها. |
Gabriel said : "O Lord, May I fly to earth | faqaala jib-raaa-ee-lu : yaa rab-bi ata-d'anu leee an ah-bita ilal-ar-z'i | فَقالَ جَبْرائِيلُ: يَارَبِّ أَتَأْذَنُ لِي أَنْ أَهْبِطَ إِلَى الاْرْضِ |
to be the sixth of them?"
Allah replied: "Yes. You are given the permission" | faqaala-laahu : naa'm qad ad'intu lak | |
Gabriel, the trusted, landed near them and said : "Peace be on you, O Prophet (s) of Allah.
The All-Highest conveys His peace on you and His greetings | a'lee-yul-aa'-laa yuq-riukas-salaamu wa yakhus'-s'uka bil-tah'eey-yati wa lik-raam | الْعَلِيُّ الاْعْلى يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلام َوَيَخُصُّكَ بِالتَّحِيَّةِ وَالاْكْرامِ |
and says: "By My Honor and Glory, O My angels! O Residents of My Heavens, | wa yaqoo-lu laka : wa iz'-zatee wa jalaalee | وَيَقُوْلُ لَكَ :وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلالِي |
verily, I have not created the erected Sky, | in-nee maa khalaq-tu samaaam-mab-nee- yataw- | إِنِّي مَا خَلَقْتُ سَماءً مَبْنِيَّةً |
the stretched earth, the illuminated moon, the bright sun, | wa laa ar-z'am-mad-h'ee-yataw-wa laa qamaram-muneeran wa laa sham-sam-muz'eeeataw- | وَلاَ أَرْضاً مَدْحِيَّةً وَلاَ قَمَراً مُنِيراً وَلاَ شَمْساً مُضِيئَةً |
the rotating planets, the flowing seas and the sailing ships, | wa laa falkal yadur wa laa bah'-ray-yaj-ree wa laa ful-kay-yas-reee | وَلاَ فَلَكاً يَدُورُ وَلاَ بَحْراً يَجْرِي وَلاَ فُلْكاً يَسْرِي |
but for your sake and love" | il-laa li-ajlikum wa mah'ab-batikum | إِلاَّ لاِجْلِكُمْ وَمَحَبَّتِكُمْ |
and Allah has given me permission to enter the cloak with you. | wa qad ad'ina leee an ad-khula maa'kum | وَقَدْ أَذِنَ لِي أَنْ أَدْخُلَ مَعَكُمْ |
May I join you, O Prophet (s) of Allah?"
The Prophet (s) replied : "And peace be on you, O trusted bearer of Allah's Revelations!
you are granted the permission" | naa'm qad ad'intu lak | فإِنَّهُ نَعَمْ قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَكَ. |
So, Gabriel entered the cloak with us | fadakhala jib-raaa-ee-lu maa'naa tah'-tal-kisaaa-i | فَدَخَلَ جَبْرائِيلُ مَعَنا تَحْتَ الْكِساءِ |
and said to my father : Allah sends His Revelations to you; | faqaala li-abee : in-nal-laaha qad aw-h'aaa ilay-kum yaqoolu : | فَقالَ لاِبِي: إِنَّ اللّهَ قَدْ أَوْحَى إِلَيْكُمْ يَقُولُ: |
"Verily Allah's desire is to keep you away from impurity (and flaws), | in-namaa yuree-dul-laahoo li-yud'-hiba a'nkumur-rij-sa | إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ |
O People of Household (Ahlul-Bayt) and keep you thoroughly purified" | ah-lal-bay-ti wa yutah-hirakum tat-heera | أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيراً. |
Then Ali said to my father : "O Prophet (s) of Allah, tell me | faqaala a'lee-yul li-abee : yaa rasoolal-laahi akh-bir-nee maa lijuloosinaa | فَقالَ عَلِيٌّ لاِبِي: يَا رَسُولَ اللّه أَخْبِرْنِي مَا لِجُلُوسِنا |
what significance has Allah given for getting together underneath this cloak ?" | haad'aa tah'-tal-kisaaa-i minal-faz'-li i'ndal-laah | هذَا تَحْتَ الْكِساءِ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ عِنْدَ اللّهُ |
The Prophet (s) replied : | faqaalan-nabee-yu s'al-lal-laaho a'lay-hi wa aaalihi: |
"By Him who rightfully appointed me a Prophet (s) | wal-lad'ee baa'thanee bi-h'aq-qi nabee- | وَالَّذِي بَعَثَنِي بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيَّاً |
and chose me a Messenger for the salvation of the mankind. | yaw-was'-tafaanee bir-risaalati naj-jeea | وَاصْطَفانِي بِالرِّسالَةِ نَجِيّاً |
whenever and wherever an assembly | maa d'ukira khabarunaa haad'aa fee mah'-falim-mim-mah'aafili | مَا ذُكِرَ خَبَرُنا هذَا فِي مَحْفِلٍ مِنْ مَحافِلِ |
of our followers and friends mention this event, | ah-lil-ar-z'i wa fee-hi jam-u'm-min shee-a'tinaa wa muh'-ib-bee-naa | أَهْلِ الاْرْضِ وَفِيهِ جَمْعٌ مِنْ شِيعَتِنا وَمُحِّبِينا |
Allah will bestow on them His Blessings and Mercy; | il-laa wa nazalat a'lay-himur-rah'-mah |

One day, my father the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his Household, visited me, "Peace be upon you, O Fatimah!" he said."Peace be upon you, too." I answered. "I can feel some fatigue in my body," he said to me, and I answered, "I pray Allah to protect you O father against fatigue." "Fatimah," he ordered, "bring me the Yemeni cloak and cover me with it." I brought him the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it. I then kept on looking at his face, which was glittering like a moon at the night of its fullness and perfection. |

No more than a while passed when my son al-Hasan came in, "Peace be upon you, mother!" he greeted. "Peace be upon you, too, O delight of my eye and fruit of my heart!" I replied. "O mother," he said, "I can smell a pleasing scent as if it is the scent of my grandfather the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his Household." "Yes, it is," I answered, "Your grandfather is now under the cloak." Al-Hasan moved towards the cloak and said, "Peace be upon you, O grandfather, Allahs Messenger. At the same time, Abul-Hasan `Ali ibn AbuTalib came in, "Peace be upon you, daughter of Allahs Messenger," he greeted. "Peace be upon you too, O Abul-Hasan and Commander of the Faithful," I replied. He then said, "Fatimah, I can smell a pleasing scent, as if it is the scent of my brother and cousin the Messenger of Allah." "Yes," I answered, "He is there with your two sons under the cloak." `Ali moved towards the cloak and said, "Peace be upon you, O Allahs Messenger! Will you allow me to be with you under the cloak?" My father replied, "Peace be upon you too, O brother, successor, vicegerent, and bearer of my Pennon. I allow you."`Ali thus went with them under the cloak. I then came towards the cloak and said, "Peace be upon you father, O Allahs Messenger. Will you allow me to be with you under the cloak?" My father replied, "Peace be upon you too, my daughter and part of my flesh. I allow you." I thus went with them under the cloak. |
Getting together underneath the cloak, my father, the Prophet of
Allah, held the two ends of the cloak and raised his right hand
towards the heavens and prayed :
|
Gabriel the Honest Archangel asked, "O my Lord! Who are those under the cloak?" The Almighty and All-majestic Lord answered, "They are the household of Prophethood and the core of the Message. They are namely Fatimah, her father, her husband, and her sons." "O my Lord," Gabriel asked, "Will You allow me to descend to the earth to be the sixth of them?" Allah the Almighty and All-majestic said, "Yes, I allow you." Gabriel the Honest Archangel descended, "Peace be upon you, O Allahs Messenger!" he greeted, "The Most High and All-high (Lord) conveys to you His greeting, expresses His special greeting and honoring to you, and says, By My Almightiness and My Majesty I take this oath: I have not created any well-established sky, extended land, glowing moon, shining sun, revolving planet, flowing ocean, or moving on ark except for your sake and for your love. He has then allowed me to join you (under this cloak). Will you, O Allahs Messenger, allow me?" Allahs Messenger said, "Peace be upon you, O trustee of Allahs Revelations. Yes, I allow you." So, Gabriel joined us under the cloak. He thus said to my father, "Allah has revealed to you saying, Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House, and to purify you a thorough purifying." |
`Ali then said to my father, "O Allahs Messenger! Please tell me; what is the value of this gathering of us under this cloak in the sight of Allah?" The Prophet, peace be upon him and his Household, said, "I swear this by Him Who has sent me with the truth as Prophet and chosen me, as holding communion, to convey the Message; whenever the tale of this gathering of us is mentioned in an assembly of the people of the earth in which a group of our adherents and lover are present, the (divine) mercy shall certainly be poured down on them and the angels shall certainly surround them, asking forgiveness for them until they depart." |
`Ali, peace be upon him, commented, "Then, by Allah I swear it; we have won. So have our adherents. I swear it by the Lord of the Ka`bah." "O `Ali!" my father Allahs Messenger, peace be upon him and his Household, added, "I swear this by Him Who has sent me with the truth as Prophet and chosen me, as holding communion, to convey the Message; whenever the tale of this gathering of us is mentioned in an assembly of the people of the earth in which a group of our adherents and lover are present and among them there is a distressed one, Almighty Allah shall certainly release him from distress, or there is among them an aggrieved one, Almighty Allah shall certainly relieve him from grief, or there is among them one who needs a request to be granted, Almighty Allah shall certainly grant him his request." `Ali, peace be upon him, said, "Then, we have won and attained pleasure. I swear it by Allah. So have our adherents; they have won and attained pleasure in this world and in the Hereafter. I swear it by the Lord of the Ka`bah." |

In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful,
the All-Compassionate Fatimatuz-Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet, peace be on them, is to have thus related ( an event ) : My father, the Prophet of Allah, came to my house one day and said to me : "Peace be on you, Fatimah" I replied : "And upon you be peace" Then he said : "I feel weakness in my body" I said : "Allah protects you from weakness, father" He said : "Fatimah, please bring Yemeni cloak and cover me with it" So, I brought the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it. Then, I looked at him and saw that his face was shining like a full moon with its glory and splendor After a while, my son Hasan came in and said : "Peace be on you, mother" I replied : "And upon you peace, O light of my eyes, and the delight of my heart" He then said : "Mother! I smell a fragrance so sweet and so pure as that of my grandfather, the Prophet of Allah" I replied : "Yes. Your grandfather is lying underneath the cloak" Hasan went near the cloak and said : "Peace be on you, my grandfather, the Prophet of Allah; May I enter the cloak with you?" He replied : "And upon you peace, my son and the master of my fountain (Kauthar), you are given the permission to enter" So, Hasan entered the cloak with him. After a while, my Husain came in and said : "Peace be on you, mother" I replied : "And upon you peace, O light of my eyes, and the delight of my heart" He then said : "Mother! I smell a sweet fragrance like that of my grandfather, the Prophet of Allah" I replied : "Yes. Your grandfather and your brother are lying underneath the cloak" Husain stepped towards the cloak and said : "Peace be on you, my grandfather, the Chosen of Allah; May I enter the cloak with you?" He replied : "And upon you peace, my son and interceder of my followers, you are given the permission to enter" So, Husain entered the cloak with them. After a while, Abul Hasan, Ali bin Abi Talib came in and said : "Peace be on you, O daughter of the Prophet of Allah" I replied : "And upon you peace, O father of Hasan, and the Commander of the faithful" He then said : "Fatimah! I smell a sweet fragrance like that of my brother, (my cousin), the Prophet of Allah" I replied : "Yes. He is underneath the cloak with your two sons" So, Ali went near the cloak and said : "Peace be on you, Prophet of Allah; May I enter the cloak with you?" He replied : "And upon you peace, my brother, my legatee, my successor, and my standard bearer, you are given the permission to enter" So, Ali entered the cloak with them. Then I stepped forward and said : "Peace be on you, my father, O Prophet of Allah; May I enter the cloak with you?" He replied : "And upon you peace, my daughter, O part of my self; you are given the permission to enter" So, I entered the cloak with them. Getting together underneath the cloak, my father, the Prophet of Allah, held the two ends of the cloak and raised his right hand towards the heavens and prayed : "O Allah, these are the people of my Household (Ahlul-Bayt). They are my confidants and my supporters. Their flesh is my flesh and their blood is my blood. Whoever hurts them, hurts me too. Whoever displeases them, displeased me too. I am at war with those at war with them. I am at peace with those at peace with them. I am the enemies of their enemies and I am the friend of their friends. They are from me and I am from them. O Allah! Bestow Your Blessings, Benevolence, Forgiveness and Your pleasure upon me and upon them. And remove impurity from them and keep them thoroughly pure" Then the Lord, Almighty Allah said : "O My angels! O Residents of My Heavens, verily, I have not created the erected Sky, the stretched earth, the illuminated moon, the bright sun, the rotating planets, the flowing seas and the sailing ships, but for the love of these Five lying underneath the cloak" Gabriel, the trusted angel, asked : "Who are under the cloak?" The Almighty answered : "They are the Household of the Prophet and the assets of Prophethood. They are : Fatimah, her father, her husband and her two sons" Gabriel said : "O Lord, May I fly to earth to be the sixth of them?" Allah replied : "Yes. You are given the permission" Gabriel, the trusted, landed near them and said : "Peace be on you, O Prophet of Allah. The All-Highest conveys His peace on you and His greetings and says: "By My Honor and Glory, O My angels! O Residents of My Heavens, verily, I have not created the erected Sky, the stretched earth, the illuminated moon, the bright sun, the rotating planets, the flowing seas and the sailing ships, but for your sake and love" God has given me permission to enter the cloak with you. May I join you, O Prophet of Allah?" The Prophet replied : "And peace be on you, O trusted bearer of Allah's Revelations! you are granted the permission" So, Gabriel entered the cloak with us and said to my father : "Allah sends His Revelations to you" Verily Allah's desire is to remove blemish from you, O People of Household (Ahlul-Bayt) and purify you with a perfect purification" Then Ali said to my father: "O Prophet of Allah, tell me: What significance has Allah reserved from His grace for this gathering of ours under this cloak?" The Prophet replied: "I swear by He who rightfully appointed me a Prophet and selected me with prophethood as a saviour: this episode of ours will not be recounted in any gathering from the gatherings of the people of the earth where a group of our shias and lovers are present except that there will descend upon them mercy! And angels will encircle them asking Allah the remission of their sins until the assembly disperses!" So Ali said: "In that case, We have attained success, and our Shias have attained success, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!"
Then the Prophet
replied a second time: "O Ali! I swear by He who
rightfully appointed me a Prophet and selected me
with prophethood as a saviour: this episode of ours
will not be recounted in any gathering from the
gatherings of the people of the earth where a group
of our shias and lovers are present and there be a
person present full of grief except that Allah will
remove his grief! And no person in distress except
that will dispel his distress! And no seeker of any
wish except that Allah grants his wish! |
